wireless woes

i don't know if this is related to my XP pro woes, but wireless connection is turning into a hair-pulling experience. the signal fades in and out regularly, even though the smc access point is 12 inches from the 8887. the odd thing is that only http seems to be affected, ftp and bearshare don't slow down or drop a bit. i've power cycled modem and router 3925734895 times and have reset the smc to factory defaults on several occasions, but to no avail. suggestions are greatly appreciated

Make sure no other electronic equipment such as phones are inbetween you and the access point. Try and run it right next to it to see if it has any problems. If it runs well right next to it, but not away, it's interference.
