Processor Upgrade

Help me! I have a Compaq Evo N1000v with Intel Pentium 4 (brand 9 - Socket478 'mPGA478' - Family 15 - Model 2 - Stepping ID 4 - name String Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.2 Ghz) and not sure if this is a mobile or desktop processor. Call HP they said it's a mobile but I didn't belive then. How do I know for sure? They also said that it is not upgradable, then I thought the processor was integrated to be mobo, but with WCPUID it shows a Socket 478. I downloaded the service manual and there are instructions to remove and replace the processor, so it is upgradable, right? Thanks, Guilherme

I'm pretty sure it's a desktop processor b/c on batteries it keeps the same clock 2.2, it doesn't run slower.

yep that is a desktop model.

Do watch out with upgrading that cpu, don't put a high end cpu in that laptop or you'll get overheating issues.

You need to look for a P4 Socket 478 400Fsb.

I would say max a P4 2.6, nothing higher then that.

OK, so need help to buy the right processor.
Actual is s Spec Number SL5YS / 2.2Ghz / 55.1W / 1500V / Thermal Spec 69ºC
I found at Intel site these:
s Spec Number SL6WZ / 2.6Ghz / 35.0W / 1300V / Thermal Spec 100ºC; and
s Spec Number SL6HB / 2.6Ghz / 62.6W / 1500V / Thermal Spec 72ºC.
At first I think SL6WZ is more apropriate for a notebook, isn't it? But there will be any problems due to different specs?? Thanks all.

Yes it is, the low wattage is helping to reduce the heat.
