understand not wanting to waste your money. Although the drive will plug into any standard notebook IDE, the front plastic bezel of the Dell drive more than likely won't match and may not even fit with your Sager. The bezel of the NEC DVD drives can be slid off as it is held on by five small hooks.

You may be more interested in looking at the ND-6500A which uses a generic faceplate and can burn - as well as the + media. http://www.nec.co.uk/DVD_RW_ND6500.aspx

Newegg.com should begin carring the ND-6500A in the next couple of days for @$140. This is a much better deal than buying the ND-6100A aftermarket from Dell for over $200.

EDIT: Newegg ND-6500A link (working now?)http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...152-028&depa=0

The ND-6500A is listed at the above link but shows that none are in stock yet.

I have a 9100 with the 6100a. I have downloaded the firmware flash but have not used it since I have been unable to back up my 6100a orig firmware. I was curious as to whether anyone who has flashed 6100a to the 6500a has had any problems afterward. Also curious as to whether the 6500a on newegg will work on a 9100. I read your posts and was unsure. I called newegg to see and was referred to NEC. Called NEC and was referred to their distributor ASI who has not returned my call. Trying to determine options if I kill my 6100a by flashing.

I just ordered the 700M and I went with the straight reader. I figure I'll eventually upgrade to the 6500. Dual layer disks are'nt yet practical when you can get a 50 pak of DVD+r's for $20
