Acer 1710 - Installing Hard drive

Thread Starter
I'm thinking about installing a faster hard drive in my 1710.

Is the Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM drive compatible with the 1710?

What process do I go through to install the new drive? Do I have to pull the current drive out, copy all content onto the new drive and then put the new drive in?

Is there a website that explains the process step by step?

thanks, Jon Miller

Western Digital is a SATA desktop drive, it won't fit a laptop.

You need to look for 2"1/2 drives, not 3"1/2.

If you need a fast drive then look at the Hitachi 7K60, that's the best for notebooks at the moment.

any desktop ATA not SATA drive can be used

they used an 3 1/2 IDE HD for those Laptop also use desktop RAM too

have to use the IDE

the Rapter uses SATA connection

so no the rapter can not be used

tho the WD 250 gig drive hase been installed into them before
