Dead 8887 - any one seen this before?

I have had my 8887 a little over a year (just missed that warranty by a few months and has been working great until today. I noticed that the battery icon was on even though it was plugged in. I checked to make sure that the adapter was properly plugged in but still no power through the adapter. After the battery was exhausted the laptop shut down. I took the battery out and plugged in the power adapter. The green light is on the adapter and so I am assuming that the adapter is still good but there is no power light on the lap top. It is just dead. Has this ever happened to any one out there?

Not with that model, but yes.

The end result was a dead motherboard, since the motherboard circuitry is required to charge the battery or run the system off the ac adapter.

Before completely freaking, though, try removing the battery and ac adapter, then pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds, then reinsert the ac adapter and try starting it again.
