Further update, just got a call back from the manager for Mike Lambert, who I mentioned previously having talked with on Friday.
ATI had a delay in the new shipment. Dell expects my order to ship by the 15th. Also, he stated it should be ok for the 9100 owners to order the above part, as it seems we spoiled Dell's plans to roll out for the XPS first then the 9100 would have been at some later time hehe
The interesting thing, as I pointed out to him, is that how can this part be $399 for XPS owners, and it includes installation, and yet I can buy the part I ordered for $303 with no installation? If the XPS owners are suppose to have free installation, then it sure looks like they are being charged about $100 for installation. Unless of course Dell is charging that upfront until they have confirmation the system the card is installed in qualifies for free install. But he mentioned being told there was no free installation, at which point I explained that was one of the key details of the ads for the XPS. So not being familiar enough with the entire XPS details, he said he'll bring that back up with the people he'd been discussing this with.
So, if you have an XPS, I think I would be asking at what point in the sale/installation you will be getting refunded the cost of the installation. As Red Herring mentioned, he received 2 part numbers, and one is just over $100, which is likely installation. If this is so, then you XPS people need to ask where is your free installation?
