So I have this interesting problem.
I bought the ath-m40fs because of their ability to reproduce very low frequencies 5,000 hrz to be excact. There responce is completetly flat so I figured I could just jack up the bass when the source (music, dvd, games) was a little skimpy on the low end. I have paired up these headphones with an echo indigo for my listening pleasure.
Here is one of the problems: when I'm listening to music or dvd and I turn up the bass I can only turn it up very little before the bass distorts with out much impovement on the low end. When I turn up the bass on the same track WITH OUT the echo indigo no distortion but not much more bass. ( I'm assuming this is because there is no amplification)
I'm wondering why this happens. It's kinda an annoying thing and it's something i can't just ignore. Maybe the headphones are too sensitive and any amplification will cause minor distortion.
My other deal is during game play and DVD's there is this weird electronic sounding distortion. For example when watching Saving Private Ryan when there was alot going on: bombs, gunfire, yelling following a sudden and intense out burst there would be this strange very electronic sounding
almost rolling distortion. Very annoying. I do not know if the source of this is the headphones or the Echo Indigo as I do not have the time compare the DVD with and with out the sound card. I also have a similar distortion during game play. (I will this afternnon)
The echo indigo has a console but no EQ to maybe help stabalize the sound.

Other than the distorted bass the ath m40fs sound great and I am considering returnng the headphones and going with the Grado's sr80 with the large earcup thingys. Woulld these beable to handle amplified bass easier?
Maybe they need more break in time. Any who, I hope the brains on this very sweet bulletenboard can help me.
