no sound upon wake-up - Page 2

question though. When it DOES beep, does your sound work?
Well, basically right after I saw your post, I rebooted and enabled system beep.

I then put it into hibernation and left it.

I came back, brought the laptop back to life, and the sound was gone.

Then I restarted, the machine DID beep, and the sound still didn't work.

well, it's very obvious then, isnt it?

God hates your computer.

[/b]To all who purchased A70 or A75 and suffering from this annoying sound problem[/b]

Just go to device maneger find modem double click on software modem doubleclick again. click power management tab , uncheck "allow this device to bring the computerout of stanby"

This will solve your problem. If you are not using the modem at all then just disable it to avoid further hardware conflict. But just unchecking as i mentioned above will also work.
cheers.

ohh one more thing I forgot to mention.
You should update your realtek Ac97 driver(http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&Software=True).I used the one for XP. uninstall the old version install the new one.
This driver will help you to pump up your music and add cool sound effect and equlizer control.

No sound upon wake up

Followed Ralfs instructions to uncheck "allow tis device to bring the computer out of standby" and it seems to have resolved my sound problem. (so far)
Boy if I had seen this forum a month ago when I bought the laptop, I would have opted for a different model. I had no idea. I just upgraded from Satellite 1400, 1.3Ghz which was working perfectly. I wanted something a bit faster (which I dont believe this is). I have also noticed that my USB Memory card reader/writer (Verbatim) is not working in this puter. I tried every USB slot.
I can live without it for the time being. I want to check out another one on here before I panic.
Ralf. I looked in the driver folder, and I dont see an ac97 driver there. How are you getting to the driver to delete it?????
P.S. New guy here but I will be sticking close.
By the way, that device driver file is huge. Its taking 40mins on cable connection (10mbs)

Thanks
I followed those instructions and they didn't work.

a weird fix

did everything suggested here... to no avail... geez... mine is much much worst... re-starts doesn't fix the problem... i have even upgraded to the most recent realtek a97 driver (5.10.0.5750)... still nothing! the only way i can make it work is to re-install the old one (5.10.0.5620) and then go to device manager -> sound and disable realtek ac97 audio... this is the weird part... it does a blue screen and gets stuck there (0xC2 or something)... when i restart using the power button... everything's well. btw, if it doesn't get stuck on the blue screen and reboots immediately, it still doesn't work. weird huh?

Try this it worked for me. Turn off the computer. Unplug from AC power, remove the battery, let it sit that way for 1 min, then hold down on the power button for 1 min, let up then press again for 15 secs.,then reinstall batteery, plug in AC, and turn on the notebook. I did not make this up this was right from Toshiba CS and it worked for me after trying everything else mentioned here, including installing BIOS upgrade after finally figuring out how to make an ISO image on a CD and getting the computer to boot from it.

why o why o why...

hmm... dat's a good fix but i think i'll stick to my workaround in the meantime. i don't like the hassle of taking off the batteries. perhaps if mine doesn't work anymore i'll try your style

still all of these are just workaround what we need is a real solution. the real cause of the problem remains a mystery. is it the realtek a97 sound card? is it a conflict? is it the modem? is it the battery? is it everything that has been mentioned or perhaps toshiba a70/a75 is just plain shitty! we have several workarounds in this forum but not one is bound to work on all circumstances. why? because there's really no exact identification of the root-cause of this problem. how is toshiba helping? if you have to ask that then i suppose you haven't tried contacting them regarding this problem! care to try your luck? hehehe

Having the same problem with Toshiba A70

I went through all the info I could find here then talked to a Toshiba Technician, then a real Toshiba tech. If anyone finds a solution, please post it here as I will be checking back often. Thanks
post #33 of 137

hmm...

i know i said that builder1's workaround is a lot of hassle (removing the batteries, timing, pressing the power button, timing again, etc etc). but then when my own workaround started to just simply not work, i tried it out. believe it or not, it worked! how it managed to worked though still beats the hell out of me!

well, i gave up thinking about it days ago. as long as it worked, i'm fine with that. i've used it about 4x already and somehow, it never failed me... at least not yet but it is still a lot of hassle. toshiba has to know this problem exists or they are just ignoring us people... geez! here's something to remind them!
I was having all the same problems and none of the workarounds worked for me. But I've had no problem since I downloaded the upgraded sound drivers (A3.68) from RealTek a couple weeks ago. Here's the link:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&Software=True

Hope that helps someone out there.
ushapanda that's great! It works perfectly for me, now I don't have to restart the computer after hibernation. I hope everyone will have the same luck
post #36 of 137
I tried the (A3.68) driver update last week and am still haveing the problem. It seems my computer must be in hibernation for a while before the problem occurs. If I put it into hibernation and bring it right back out I still have sound, but if it is hibernation for 20 to 30 minutes or longer it loses the sound when I bring it back up.
Same thing here. A75-S226, 6 months old, out-of-the-box problem. Is Toshiba aware of the problem, and looking for a solution? I'm in Brazil so calling the Toll-free number is not an option for me. I couldn't find an email adress to complain about it...

Unfortunately, I don't think a driver update will fix it, because the exact same thing happens on Linux. My BIOS is upgraded to the latest version. Not many options left...
well i am not sure if this driver update has fixed the no sound problem upon wake up.. but i do know that my TRAKTOR DJ program works at a much lower latency now.. before with the original drivers, i go to 14 or less ms.. and the sound gets all nasty, now i can go down to 7ms with no sound problems at all..

Still no luck

Damn! I installed the latest version (5.10.0.5770) of the driver, unchecked allow this device to bring the computer out of standby. The first time I put it to hibernate, it came back ok. Unfortunately, the next time the sound muted again.

The weirdest thing is that Windows Device Manager reports that "This device is working properly".
weird I'm not sure what's wrong, my a70 is about 5 months old now. I did however install xp pro as soon as I opened the box
