no sound upon wake-up - Page 3

The new drivers didn't work for me either...

*sigh*
hmm odd, I have an A70-TS1, I installed xp pro as soon as I got and updated every driver and the bios from the toshiba website. I am also not using their ati drivers except for the ATI SMBUS driver from their website. I'm using the radeon omega drivers (2576) I don't remember the exact version. I also don't use the lame wireless utilities or configfree software thing that comes witht he laptop. I don't remember my exact configuration I did this awhile ago and just recently updated the realtek drivers.
well since i updated the sound drivers, i haven't really had any sound issues lately... "knock on wood" lol...

Service pack 2

My previous lap top (not a Toshiba) did the same thing intermitantly after I installed service pack 2. I uninstalled it and the problem went away. My new A70-SC1, seems fine so far (knock on wood) but if it acts up that is what I will be trying. Try deacitivating Hibernation mode as well.

Well.....I did a complete system restoration and updated the driver this weekend. The frist time I brought it out of hibernation....NO SOUND!! What a waste of about 8 hours to get everything loaded and back up and running. Toshiba doesn't seem to have an answer, so I will keep searching for a solution.
Have you guys tried disabling hibernation and using standby mode instead? I had nothing but problems with hibernation mode with my acer lap top disabled it and most of them went away.
Tried that too with no avail

Damn it this is so damn annoying!!!!!

I have the a70 and this problem started about a week after it came out of the box. At first i thought it was my mouse, becaus ei bought a new mouse for it and everytime id start up the pc with my mouse in it wouldnt work and whenever i didnt it would work. BUt then it started not to work when the mouse wasnt plugged in. So Now i have NO idea.

Toshiba tech support tried everything with me and they said next step is to take it in. Which i dont want to do just yet.

My sound wil not work sometimes out of the blue, after hibernation or startup. So its really anoying.

rrealtek has a new beta driver out as of the 21st which im downloading now.
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...=True#8Windows

maybe it will work.

This Problem NEEDS to be fixed!!!

Jak,
Did the new beta driver help the problem? I was waiting for a response from you before trying it myself.

I downloaded the beta driver and the problem still occurs.

Hope that helps someone out there.
It has

I've had my A75-S2762 for six months and trying most everything suggested
in these forums to fix the loss of sound out of hibernation.

I downloaded the file from the URL you suggested. I did not uninstall my old drivers, I simply ran the setup and got my sound back. I've been banging on it
taking it in and out of hibernation, switching accounts and media players.

The sound has not quit on me at all

Now I can use hibernation again.

Thanks all...these forums rock!

version 3.68 have fixed the problem on my computer i am sure the beta drivers would too.. but seems like the beta drivers causes my mp3's to pop and clitch during playback more so that 3.68 drivers do.. iam gonna revert back to the factory drivers to see if that occurs

possible fix

I had the very same exact problem with my Acer TM6003lci and Realtek ac97 - sound would go out after I switch back from hibernation/stand by mode. Only until I recently installed the latest chipset driver from intel's website! (version 6.3.0.1007 as for today). Now everything seems to be back to normal.

Try it if you haven't already... I'm also running the latest realtek driver, but it didn't fix this issue alone.

this thread cursed me! lol.

I have not had this problem until this last Saturday. I bought my a75-206 on e bay a couple months ago. Well the prev. Owner somehow wrote the name of his company into the registry. The i.e. history would not work because it would say elect@ebayhttp://www. Yadda yadda so... if i wanted to open a page from yesterday i would have to copy, past and then delete the first part of the operand. Anyway, this was just one of this minor innconviences this caused... so i decided to just wipe out the HD and start fresh.
After i installed the recovery disk, my laptop w/ rockin... but i noticed no sound and the fader was grayed out..... Another thing i noticed that no one has mentioned yet... besides all the audible being absent, windows media player, movie maker, real player and quick time would also hang up after a few seconds no matter the size off the file and just stall up. Anyone else have this problem???This really makes me think its a video card problem. So... i installed wmp 10 and still no improvement. I unzipped it again and ran it. Then everything was cruising again. The next day there was no sound AGIAN and the media players were suckin! So i downloaded the realtek upgrade and ran it... no change. So i went to bed.
The next day i powered up and the sound was back and once again everything was runnin tip top. I still have not updated my bios or downloaded the chipset update recommended in the previous post. Honestly i don’t know what the chipset is....(rookie)
Right now everything is working but i don’t want to start any new projects if my laptop is just going to crap out again... I’m just not confident...
Is there any updates you guys and gals recommend for my a75? Either from Toshiba or an outside source?
Here’s 1 more thing i noticed each time the volume went out.....
The fan was constantly on... it’s was low but it’s was definitely on. Even w/ nothing running. (just the desk top present)
I set the laptop on the table last time it did this next to the window last Sunday night (last time it did this) for an hour just to see if the fans would stop once it cooled down. But they never stopped. I just wanted to be sure of all the symptoms incase i need to get it serviced... after an hour i powered down. The next morning everything worked fine....! trippy....

I upgraded the sound driver to the new beta version and still have the problem..........
Do you guys have the lock switch on the battery set to locked? Well what I noticed with my laptop is that when that switch is on (in locked position) the sound does not come back with I open the lid from hibernation.
Maybe try unlocking and see what happens, no idea but seems to be the case with my machine
post #57 of 137
Thanks for the suggestion Star, but unlocking the battery switch did not work.

This is an ongoing problem with my laptop (actually, the only problem), and I would really like to get a fix for this sound issue.

Does anyone have any more suggestions or ideas?

Thanks.

Sorry to bring up what seems to Mickey Mouse fix but it works...

Try this it worked for me. Turn off the computer. Unplug from AC power, remove the battery, let it sit that way for 1 min, then hold down on the power button for 1 min, let up then press again for 15 secs.,then reinstall battery, plug in AC, and turn on the notebook.

I did not make this up this was right from Toshiba CS and it worked for me after trying everything else mentioned here, including installing BIOS upgrade after finally figuring out how to make an ISO image on a CD and getting the computer to boot from from the CDROM.

Mine has not reverted to the sound problem since I did this originally. I keep reading all the fixes on here including BIOS, changing power settings, and Realtek drivers all of which did nothing for me.

When the Toshiba tech. was telling me all this I thought he was full of sheeeeeet, but it worked for me.

It worked for me!

Thanks to Builder1 for the instructions to resolve this problem. Believe it or not, it worked for me! I followed the instructions thinking this was a hoax, it looked very weird. But I really wanted to resolve this annoying problem that every time my computer comes back from hibernation the sound is gone. It has been two days, several times a day going to hibernation and back to normal, with no problem. Give it a try, it's worth.
Ok... so:
Step 1) Turn off PC
Step 2) Unplug PC
Step 3) Remove battery and allow to sit for 1 minute (let's make it 5)
Step 4) Hold down power button for 1 minute and let go
Step 5) Hold down power button for 15seconds and let go.
Step 6) Reinstall battery and plug PC back in.
Step 7) Turn on Notebook and enjoy problem free sound

That about right?

If this works... I can't thank you enough. How wacky. I've been a computer and notebook technician for almost 10 years now and I've never seen something like this. I assume it's some sort of wacky internal motherboard reset. Leaving the battery out for 1 minute or more will basically put the computer's motherboard into BIOS Backup mode where it holds the BIOS info on the little watch battery inside. Pressing that button must clear something in the BIOS or something. That's the only thing I can think of.
