university i have emailed you the hot fix. the password expires after a while so do it right away.

I have had no problems since installing it. Hopefully this is the end of it all.

thanks to all those who made great suggestions on this problem.

Hotfix does not work for me but I found something that does. I changed the speaker setup to [no speakers]. Everything works fine now.

control panel
Sounds and Audio Devices
Volume tab
Speaker Settings- Advanced-
Speakers Tab - Speaker Setup [no speakers]

Testing again.
keep in mind I now use a Creative Soundblaster PCMCIA but the problem was affecting even that.
did it work for you or no?

Forget changing speaker setup to [no speakers]. Today, my trouble is back!

Hotfix didn't work either

Microsoft's hotfix didn't work for me either. But I didn't expect it to work, since this problem also occurs in Linux.

The workaround I've been using, is to put it to Standby, and then turn it on again. Thankfully, it works every time, and it's not as "painful" as removing the battery.

BTW, mine is a A75-S226.

well it had worked for me for a few days but I left my computer on and went for lunch, it went into hibernate and when I returned and booted it back up, no sound. what a load of crap!!!
i reinstalled hotfix again dont know if that is going to help. going to disable the hybernate as well.

I will update

There are two things I have noticed that might be clues.
1) the hotfix seems to work if SP2 has not been installed.
2) the sound doesn't work after the notebook has been off for about an hour. (warm=no sound), (cold=sound), (hot=sound)

p.s. mine is a a75-s226

anybody have anything else??? I've got nothing.

Except constantly rebooting my computer.

Standby doesn't work anymore

I've returned from lunch, powered the notebook on (it was off, not hibernating), and no sound. Put it to standby, back on, still no sound. Put it to standby, back on, still no sound. Damn!

I have found that if upon coming out of hibernation there is no sound, I put the system into stand-by and then bring it right back up and the sound comes back every time. (much quicker than a reboot)

Mine is an A-70 custom
