Overclocking

I got adrenaline when I got my computer and I got some questions. What is the best setting to clock the memory and engine at? I play Doom 3, Lineage 2, Battlefield Vietnam etc. and even beefier power would rock. Also has anyone ever set them at the highest?

It's trial and error, you have to test for yourself to see which settings work best for your machine.

but is there an amount that works best for people? For trial and error, I dont want to blow my video card or anything so I am kinda scared to up it too much.

Dont worry, If you overclock a bit too much, the screen will freeze or go black and you will have to restart. No real damage to the system. You can tell that the freeze will happen when you start to see artifacts on the screen (errors in textures, etc.) so if you dont think you will make it to the end of the test you can abort (esc) and ease the clocks back down. Atleast this is what has occured to me with the 5700.

You would prolly be safe with a 25MHz increase to the Core and 10-15 MHz on the memory...just increase by 5MHz increments until you are no longer comfortable increasing the speeds or start to see visual artifacts. If you see artifacts back it down by 5-10MHz.

Cool, I increased the core by 25MHz and the memory by 15MHz. So far so good, I will let you know if anything goes wrong! Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it!

This might sound stupid, but is there a lot of difference with the core increased with 25Mhz and the memory with 15Mhz?

not really. the human eye cant really distinguish between 60FPS and 100. anything over 60FPS in any game is really just for bragging rights. My stock radeon 9700 pro system can run doom3 in ultra quality mode 1024X768 all quality settings maxed, and 4X FSAA. not too shabby for an out of date video card. I have a feeling another 25 MHz wouldnt make it run much smoother.
