WXGA vs WSXGA+

I've taken alot of the info from this forum and found it very useful. I think I'll repay the forum back slowly.

Here are shots of my 8600's WXGA screen (I like it because I can read my text from a distance) and my friends WSXGA+ screen. I've always wondered which one was clearer.. better.. easier on the eyes.

You can compare how much more you can see in the first picture. Alot more of the Alienware topics can be seen on the WSXGA+ whereas only Sager can be seen on my WXGA. Also... take note of the minimize/maximize/close buttons. They're alot smaller on the WSXGA+ screen.

The recycling bins can be compared in the second picture as well as the start menu.

I looked at my friends WSXGA+ screen and I was amazed how clear and sharp it was. Each pixel is so small. It's quite amazing!

I would like to use these pictures in the FAQs, may I?

Yah.. Definately... Go ahead. You put alot of work into your General and 9100/XPS FAQ. I bet it's helped many people out (including myself)!!

Thanks mate. It is now included, so let me know if the blurb is to your liking. Great pics

I've gotta say, I think I like the one on the right. I'm assuming thats the WSXGA. A little worrisome tho when I think about what my WUXGA is gonna look like on the XPS. Too bad another of your friends didn't have that screen to view all in one pic side-by-side Nice job on the pics tho. I'm glad they will be used in the FAQ as well. They show the difference between the two as well as the ones there now if not a little better. That FAQ has been insanely helpful for me while I'm prepping to buy my iXPS. Hard to believe I had one ordered without even glancing at the FAQ or the unofficial guide on how to get a deal from Dell. Kinda glad it fell through even though I'm spending most of my free time pacing in front of the Dell site. haha... Again, great pics and nice lappies!

Thanks for the post. Yet another place to direct potential questioners.

the left seems to have a blueish tone? do all XGA's do that? I remember the same thing on my XGA for my 1100 when i compared it to my SXGA on my 5150
post #8 of 36
It is not really a bluish tone, just overexposure of the camera shot.

When I was debating what laptop to get, one of the things I wanted was the wsxga+ screen. Well, I'm so glad I didn't get one.

Of course, with my Powerbook I can only have the one resolution, however, 1440 by 900 is more than enough. I got a chance to see the SXGA+ on an 8600 and it was too small. I can't even imagine how people can put up with the UXGA screens!

I really wish I could. But we're both in University right now and my digital camera is at home.

I can tell you though that the colours on the WXGA and WSXGA+ are very identical. The blushish tone on my screen is the camera's fault (or maybe mine). But his screen are my screen are nearly identical in brightness, contrast, and appeal. The only difference is I can see my text alot better farther away from my laptop than he can from his laptop. .

MojoRT, what are your settings at if i may ask? Because it looks pretty big there. Are they fuzzy at all if the dpi is set at a higher rate?

Well.. my screen is different from your screen. I have the WXGA vs your WSXGA+ screen. I have my display setting at 96DPI. I havn't tried them at higher DPI's.. but I don't think it's necessary with my screen
post #15 of 36
I have the wxga screen as well and at 96 dpi things are just way to little. How can you see? lol. If your settings are at 96 dpi did you change anything else?

I could read all the text on V.B.'s WUXGA screenshot of VB.NET, so they must be pretty good!
