Decided to give gentoo a try

Ok, I decided that I didn't like all of the extra junk that mandrake included (I may go back to it, but as a soon to be computer/electrical engineer major, I feel it my duty to explore to more hard core (while not completely hardcore) creationg of a linux installation). Anyways, I have a some expereance with linux, and was wondering, would you guys/girls rec stage1 or stage2. I really don't want to do stage3 because that defeats the purpose of using gentoo imo. Also, on a side note, I love a good challange, if that makes any difference to you.

use stage 1 if you have the time to spare. it's the best way to optimize your system packages with the best CFLAGS. they sometimes end up being a pain to recompile later.

and of course, if you like a good challenge, then stage1 would obviously require the most work. although i really don't think it's much of a challenge in general...

Do a stage1. Stop by the Gentoo site and get the install guide and it's a piece of cake. Take a look at my poll about which distro, it turned into a Gentoo install Q&A while I was installing last week.
