Still cant get my CL56 to boot up.. any ideas?

I replaced both the cpu and ram (twice) and it still wont boot (I dont see anything on the screen or hear any beeps).

When i press the power button, the power light turns on, the fan on the cpu spins and the hard drive spins (and I even think the cdrom drive spins).

Only problem: I dont see anything on screen and no beeps. I tried hooking it up to an external monitor and that didnt help.

My only guess is that the motherboard is bad, and I guess I'll have to send it back. This kinda sucks - I ordered this at the begining of August and I still probably wont have it working for another 2-3 weeks (if I have to send it back).

One potential answer is that you don't have the CPU properly locked into place. Other users experienced this problem. I believe there is a single screw that must be turned in order to lock the CPU into the socket, unlike what we are used to in desktop mobos in which you must secure the CPU using a lever. If this isn't the issue, I'm at a loss.

Anyone else? Could it be a bios problem maybe?

So I take it that the CPU was locked down by the screw?

Yes it was. Then I sent it back to RJTech and they told me it wasn't. I'm a bit skeptical, but whatever - I'll get it when I get the notebook back.

I had the same problem after what I think was a bad bios flash, mobo had to be replaced...granted it had so many issues (bad batch of CL56's i think).

epb613 I am sure that your cpu wasnt locked correctly. You needed to apply a little force while turning the screw. I had the same problem in my Uniwill 223II0, hdd running, lights and fan on, but nothing appearing on the screen, so I just rechecked and applied more force while turning the cpu screw.

i had the same problem after 1 month! i bring it back to the store! it wasnt the mem, the proc or bad bios!! It was the motherboard, so i become a new one lappy! try something to do with the warranty!

good luck, son!

may the force be with you!

It is your motherboard, if the CPU screw thing doesn't work. Since it doesn't sound like you did anything to it, it probably melted down. To prevent this in the future, use a notebook cooler, and make sure the laptop is cool before putting it into a backpack/case/etc. This is the leading cause of death among laptops, followed by impact, and theft.

I know you are getting it repaired, but if the mobo died, then the rest of the components are probably suspect also. You might be better off getting a new one.

Seemed to me that this issue was already being resolved by RJTech. Sounds like he had said it was as a result of a the CPU not being locked into to place. Even if it were something else, if Rich is going to fix it...we can put this one to bed.

Hope you get your issues resolved in a timely fashion, epb613.
