Input Wanted: Compal CL 56 vs Uniwill N258KA0 apples vs oranges?

I am looking at two different units. I cam curious how the Compal CL 56 with Pentium M and virtues compares to the Uniwill unit with the Athlon 64 processor. I know that these are not directly comparable, but what can you experts tell me?

I am interested in build quality, reliability and practical issues. Also the display.

I know that these are different machines, but I am trying to make an informed choice, as I can get either of these through a buddy in the hardware biz at very good price points..as whitebox units.

Of course, they will not have any merchant support of extended warranty, so reliablity and trouble free operation is important.

The Uniwill will probably have a better display as it is WXGA, which generally have better viewing angles etc. You'll get considerably better battery life on the CL56 given the P-M and it is a lighter system. The one other thing to bear in mind with the N258KA0 is that many people who have purchased them have reported that the system can get quite hot, leading some to return them. If you aren't concerned about the heat, battery life and system weight, the Uniwill will be a more powerful system.

If you can get them through your buddy, get him to test the Uniwill & see whether it will work with a 2800+ LowVoltage processor....

Personally I find XGA resolution (even if it is widescreen) unbearable so I would go with the CL56 just on that, although if the screens were the same the Uniwill would be a no-brainer.
