just did a fresh install of windows xp pro sp1 on my 5670, with the latest drivers offered on the sagernotebook support drivers d/l page.

m9 driver is version 6.14.1.6307 (cat 3.2 i believe), it's straight from the sagernotebook website. Direct x is version 8.1.

PROBLEM:

occasionally on restarting of windows, the screen colors will become inverted, ie, black becomes white, etc, (looks quite cool actually). it will happen when the WELCOME screen appears, the screen where u click on ur name to go into windows.

the problem usually goes away when u restart again. but comes back once in a while.

the machine works flawlessly other than that, with 3dmark2k1 score in 7100-7200 range in default mode.

POSSIBLE SOLuTIONs:

1) in bios, the AGP aperture is set to be 64MB, shld i set it to 128 mb?

2)shld i try seven.net drivers? if so, which version, there's the 6307, 6292,and 6343

i live in Singapore, shipping cost and tax cost me 300 us bucks for this machine, i dun wish to ship back to sager again, can somebody pls advise me?

i believe i'm not alone with this problem

thanks for any input

6343 are the new Cat 3.4s, and EVERYBODY had the "boots to 640x480" problem. (See the last several pages of the thread.) 6307 are the Cat 3.2s, and I think 6292 are the Cat 3.1s. Cat 3.2s have been pretty stable for everyone.

It's an intermittent hardware problem that can never be fixed, you have to do what I did and exchange the laptop for a whole new one. (Beleive me I tried everything and the manufacturer did too)

I have not had any problem since that, and im using the modified cat 3.2 drivers also with win xp pro sp1.

I also have the inverted colors problem with my new 5670. It only happens when I boot on battery power though. Never happens on AC power.

I spent a whole afternoon on the phone with Sager tech support and was unable to resolve the problem even with a fresh Winxp install.

I shipped it back for repair today. I feel confident it'll work out.

At first, I was gonna leave you a post encouraging you to send it back, but considering my current situation, you may have made a solid decision.

I sent my new 5670 back a week ago with the "inverted colors" problem. Considering the 48 hour turnaround guarantee on new machines, it should be on it's way back by now. But its not.

I recieved word from Sager yesterday that the wide angle screens are out of stock. I will get a replacement when they receive more. They say maybe in a "few days". With all the rumors flying around about no wide angle screens before September, I'm pretty worried.

So... right now I'm in limbo. No laptop, and no idea when I'll get mine returned. Anyone ever find theirself in a situation like this with Sager? Any suggestions?

Thanks and wish me luck.

though you may not want to you could try and get a refund and see pro-star still has them in stock, and then order it from them instead, the price diff is quite minimal.

Here's a follow up...

I received my notebook a few days after I posted. A couple of phone calls to Sager assured me they would get it back to me quickly. Which they did.

As you know, my 5670 suffered from the inverted colors issue. As it turns out this was a defect of the screen itself. Not the video card or other hardware. They replaced only the screen. I thought this may be the case before I sent it in, as I tested it while connected to an external monitor and would get inverted colors on the notebook screen and normal on the monitor.

After many boots on battery, I no longer have inverted colors!

I'm very pleased except for one thing. My new screen has uneven lighting. The upper left corner has a bright glow that's very noticable on dark backgrounds. I've turned the brightness all the way down and also turned down the brightness of my video card settings. The glow is still quite noticable.

I'm gonna live with it though as the display is incredible otherwise. And I really love everything about my 5670. My original screen also had the glow in the upper left, it was not near as bad though.

All in alll, I'm very happy with the outcome. The status emails I received from RMA were what had me alarmed and worried. But the guys in tech support were very reasurring.

BTW... 2 wide angle UXGA screens, 0 dead pixiels

Hi iv had my 5670 for about 2 months and with in that first week i had it i didnt notice any problem with my colors inverting on me. i had to send my battery in for a new one and when the new one came thats when the inverting happend it woulnd happen all the time be it mad me mad that i had to reboot to fix it, but not it happens about evey time i boot up and i have to turn off my laptop and take the battery all the way out and then put it back in then boot back up and that usuly fixes the problem it never does it when i have the crappy s/VGA viedo drivers on (when im upgrading my Vid card drivers) and then usuly the first boot after i install them i have no problem... i dont know what to do i dont want to take my battery out every time i want to go on my laptop...

I have found an ez fix for the inverted colors.... this has worked every time for me...

ok when you boot up and you get the inverted colors hold the Fn key then hit F4 to go into suspend mode then wate 5- 10 seconds and hit the keys again and bam no more inverted colors (at least for me) this beets rebooting 8 million times to get non inverted colors. iv never had to do this more then once so if this doesnt work then i dont know what esle to say but get an RMA and send it in for Fixen

This has worked perfectly for me too - thanks for the idea GR. I figured turning the screen off and back on again would trigger a fix, but just didn't know how to do it quicker than rebooting

haha, hmm, after over a year, i'm used to this problem by now, and yes, tt's the fastest way to get it back to normal, but i do get paranoid over frequent & repeated standbies causing any unforseen "side-effects" in the long run....
