LOUD fan and noise cancellation ideas

Thread Starter
I have been learning a little on noise cancellation and It came to my mind when i recieved my new ECS laptop. The fan is LOUD. Do you guys know of anyone who has experimented with this? what I have in mind is making a sound continuously play in the background that mimics the fans noise but is out of step with it so that the sound waves destructively interfere and cancel eachother out. The problem with this would be in the fan speeds changed too frequently, unless someone wrote a program that checks the speeds. I dont know, but has anyone heard of an idea like this before, the fan is driving me crazy.

that or you can just turn the laptop off to fix the problem

Ventilation

I don't know if I had *quite* the same issue, but my 5200 fan would periodically kick into super-over-drive and it drove me crazy. Turns out the ventilation around my desk was just really poor... a friend of mine solved the problem by sticking two styrofoam squares (about 1" cube) on the laptop's rear "legs" and that has helped the ventilation *tremendously.*

The fan still turns on, but it doesn't go into overdrive. Also, for the first time, the fan occasionally *TURNS OFF* ... imagine my delight. =)
