screen flicker?

Hey,
I noticed with my desktop monitor (non LCD) that when i played loud music on my speakers (situated on either side of the monitor) the screen would flicker at every beat. I'm just curious why that happens. Also, I just bought a logitech 3.1 speaker system and the SUB is 2 feet behind and 1 ft. above my laptop. Will that damage my laptop? (M6807) Thanks.

The flicker on a CRT monitor when close to speakers is caused by the magnetic field generated by the speakers. Most computer speakers are pretty well shielded for this reason, but your's either aren't or are poorly shielded. Magnets and CRTs don't mix well

As for the sub placement, I personally try to keep all magnetized objects away from my computers. I can't think of a c\ase off hand where I have seen a PC or notebook damaged in that matter, but you never know. Keep in mind the HD is still a magnetic disk. The magnet shouldn't affect the LCD or optical drives, but could (unlikey) damage the HD or even interfere with the memory. I don't think you run much of a risk of damaging anything, but I personally would place it elsewhere.

Well with desktop hard drives they are shielded against magnetic fields, but I wouldn't get a laptop hard drive close to a subwoofer, as they are small and don't have such magnetic shielding.
