yea you know who I'm talking about. The people who say that intel sucks, and they swear by amd. well i found this and it pretty much shows how intel is tearin up amd

Hmm, I'm an Amd fan and I know intel has Amd beat right now. There's this little thing called the hammer comming out in August so I'm not worried. Price wise AMD still beats the Pentium chips. Especially at the lower clocked CPU's. I'm considering upgrading my system at the end of the summer. I hope the hammer performs as expected. If not I'll go for whichever chip gives me the best bang for my buck.

good luck getting a power notebook w athlon 64.
xp should support it by then but notebook makers will slap it in some 14" cheapo model w max 384MB & 20GB drive...

Who said I wanted to put it in a notebook? I'm talking about my main desktop system. A top of the line notebook is nice, but a top of the line desktop will crush the notebook.

oh. i've stopped thinking desktop now that i can configure workstation power in a laptop. b4 p4 ramped up in speed i used to try to find top end notebooks with amd. i'd only find models like i described.

Actually they already made a prototype of AMD64 laptop. It spot 17" widescreen and very thin (I guess around 1" thin). I saw a picture, but can't remember where. Will post the link if I find them. That's my next dream laptop machine.

OH my god, it'll last like 30 min on battery! I'm a hardcore AMD fan, but I don't think AMD is doing very well for notebooks. They do run very hot, so it will also be a challenge to transport so much heat out of the laptop. I wouldn't really count on an AMD laptop unless it's constantly plugged in...

Still, you can't beat an AMD's price. With the right configuration, you can get an AMD computer for less than $300, decked with all the nice features.

"Actually they already made a prototype"
interesting:

it doesn't do anything but it's sorta cute.

The hammer may not be hot. Its a completely different chip then the xp we have right now. A 3000 xp hammer will only be running at 2ghz so there has to be some savings in heat and power. It may in fact be an excellent processor for laptops, but we wont know till they are released. Oh and ECS puts out an amd desktop replacement notebook with a 15 inch screen and an ATI 9000.
