I just got it, man the screen is so nice and it's so light compared to my Area 51m, the build is really sweet. Feels solid and I got the bigger battery.

Here are some pics, enjoy

That's almost just like mine except I got a DVD burner.

I see that you got the extended battery too. I wish it didn't stick out so much in the back. Oh well. I just had the first discharge cycle using the normal battery, and it lasted about 2 hours.

...did you check do any benchmarking and such? I just ran a few tests on SiS Sandra 2004, and it claims that the Intel Extreme Graphics has 57mb of memory?!? Weird. Anyone know how to "configure" the memory setting to the integrated graphics chips? I know that it can be "user configured" to use anywhere from 32mb to 64mb.

Try looking at the BIOS, I think it's there.

Only issue I got with it is that the USB ports are on the left side. So if I want to use a wired mouse, it will be annoying since I am right handed.

I like the new 12.1 Sentia better. But that's just my opinion. Glad you're happy with your Dell though.

Ahhh. your area 51m is beautiful. I was about 95% sure I was going to get one in blue until I found the 8600 with nearly 700 dollars off. 700m is nice too. I really wish though, that they integrated a camera into it. Then I would get one too hands down.

Thanks, but I love your painted 8600 !!! ^^ Matches my car.

I like the blue on your 8600 better than the blue on the Area 51m.

The graphics adjust to what is needed thats why they say anywhere between 32-64 just like speedstep for your processor

I must admit, that when the 700m was first released and I saw pics I was one of the first to claim 'Fugly'! But I've seen quite a few pictures now... and I'm definately warming up to the look of it. It looks quite nice indeed with the silver and white...

Wow! That 700m is really nice. Can you post some pics with it turned on? I'd love to see some pics of the display. Looks like a nice laptop though. If they had put a decent gfx card in (ie. MR9000) it would be even better.

Which drive is 7200rpm?

Hitachi? Is it a Dell part #?

I'm late here, but I run a USB mouse and the cord is like five feet longer than I need it to be. Plenty of room to run around the back of the computer.

Saw a 700m (didn't have a chance to play with it, though) at the Dell kiosk in Northbrook. I was impressed. If that silver lining is what Dell will do with the next 8600, good for them. I'm hoping they can get rid of the blue (or at least offer it as an option).
