Got my Dell DJ 15G Today...

Not bad Dell, not bad at all.

Ordered the DJ on Wednesday , it was shipped on Thursday, and it was at my house today (Friday). Incredible response considering I used the free 3-5 day mail ground shipping. This thing came real fast.

As for the player, damn the thing is small ... not as small as an Apple iPod which everyone knows, but their dimensions are quite close. The thing is defiantely heaver, but not by much at all. As everyone says, the DJ's build quality is really really good there's a very solid feel to it. No squeeks or anything of any kind.

Got it refurbished for $177.02 shipped to my door in a day. Very impressed, damn it's going to be wierd having all my music on me whenever I need it. I don't have near enough music to fill this thing up at all. Maybe 2 Gigs maybe.... I doubt that.

Now I just got to get a remote/FM reciever and a FM transmitter for mah car, and I'll be all set.

I've been thinking about getting one of those myself. I hear you on the amount of space though, I have 8 hours of music on my laptop and it only comes out to 650MB.

The thing that really annoys me about DJ is only one thing. It's not plug and play, unlike Ipod.. I want to use my mp3 player not only for playing musics, but also for storing my school work from any computer i'm working with. The problem with DJ is, you have to install the driver in a computer when you want to use it as a storage drive.. Its kind a bit annoying though.. Alas, I'm gonna buy iPod rather than DJ.. If DJ has a plug and play capability, I definitely gonna go for DJ.

If you have money to blow then sure..... but the iPods are not worth the price their asking. At Best Buy, a 20 Gig Apple iPod was $300 ... whereas the refurbished 20 Gig Digital Jukebox from Dell was $202 ....

Yeah it's not plug and play, I considered that, and it really wasn't that big of a deal to me, just as long as I could use the DJ as a secondary HDD -- which I can without hassle.

I do go from computer to computer, and it would be nice to store my information from that computer to the DJ and then to my laptop. However, my university allows us to look up any information needed through FTP on our own personal account. So, if I need any information from a computer that I've accessed around the campus I just gotta log on to a FTP program.

But, if money is no object the iPod's for you. But for me, I personally think that Apple's rediculous asking that much for the iPod. However I'm VERY VERY happy with my purchase.

I had an iPod, that I sold because I wasn't using it enough. Then I missed it, but decided to try out other similar mp3 players. In my quest I went through Archos, Rio, Creative, and the Dell...but none of them really could compare with the iPod...although the DJ came close. The only thing that I didn't like about the Dell DJ was the inability to use it as a external HDD for large files. Other than that...the DJ is a very good HDD based mp3 player.

...after it all....I went back and bought another iPod.

Just a quick heads up about the iPod and using it as an external HD.
Also with the iPod you need iTunes installed to even access it at all. iTunes is kind of the driver for the thing so even with an iPod you cannot just plug it in and use it as a storage device

Actually...Widows XP will recognize the drive as a "removable" drive even without iTunes if plugged into a Firewire port. I know this, because I tried it on my brand new 700M yesterday before installing iTunes. I tried doing it with my old 600M and it's USB2.0 port, and it didn't recognize it, requiring a driver....weird.

wow thats news for me, never heard that this works, always thought iTunes was required.

Thanks for the heads up

If i'm not wrong Pathtonowhere, you can get a second hand ipod for less than 200 dollar in Amazon. It doesn't have to be new right?

i had the dell dj for quite some time now. It's a pretty good player. I'm only one away from this freeipod.com thing, so I'll report a comparison when I get my ipod.

15003, used ipods on amazon are ~270.

So then that's around $100 more..... still Apple doesn't convice me to spend an extra $100 for their product.

Both my Inspiron 8600, and now my DJ have been refurbished ... and are like brand spanking new. The DJ has no scuffs no errors, nothing wrong at all with it. Looks as good as new.

"Mr. Timberlake..." go ahead with the notion and think that all refurbished products are bad, and defective. I've been pretty impressed with Dell.
