Is there any way to upgrade Ferrari 3200's GPU???!!! to a MR9800.... snorre? Anyone with the ferrari?

Dell XPS and inspiron9100 users are able to do it... from mr9700 to MR9800...they bought a 9800 kit from Dell...

that'd be so awesome if we could do it too! They even have instructions for replacing GPU here:

If you are technically inclined, installation is fairly easy and sounds like it will save you $400.

Unless the manufacturer comes out with a GPU board with the 9800, you won't be able to upgrade since all the parts are proprietary.

The Dell is extremely thick and well cooled to be able to acomodate the MR9800, the power supply also needs to meet sertain reqirements to be way more powerfull.

In a F3200 I think you can forget the MR9800. But who know. Maybe after a die-shrink?

No, and besides the MR9800 isn't really suited in any thin & light notebooks because it requires much more power than the MR9700 and also produces alot more heat.

I'd stay with the 9700 as the performance gain with the 9800 is only about 10% over the 9700 where as the performance gain of the 9700 over the 9600 is about 30%.

Just my 2 cents

well the people that do make the upgrade in their dell...they keep the 9700 it says...would those 9700's work in other laptops? like....the W1N, which only has the 9600? if not, woulda been a nice thought at least.

Drugs are bad, mkay? The MR9800 has about a 75% performance gain over the MR9700. In some cases, it's more like 90%.

Out of curiosity, did you make up that 10% number randomly, or was it just misinformation that was passed on to you?

75-90% seems excessive too, I'd say about 50% According to the only review I ever read. Was Tom's Hardware I think.

there's about a 60-70% performance increase in the 9800 with its 8 pixel pipelines.

It depends on what you're doing to compare them. When I do comparisons like that, it's generally with a benchmarking software. At stock clocks, a 9100 with a 9700 gets around 3500 in 3DMark03, that same 9100 gets around 6500 at stock clocks with a 9800. That, in itself, is an 85% increase.
