What BIOS versions work?

Hi,

Today, I got the following from Sager tech support:

The BIOS is from the manufacturer of the notebook computer in Taiwan. We have noticed the intermittently not booting problem recently. The manufacturer has released couple of versions of bios to correct the problem.

This is about the problems I have been having booting my 8887.

My question is, what 8887 BIOS versions are stable with HT enabled? Which versions are suspect.

The two that I suspect the above comment refer to are 3.05d and 3.04i. Time will tell if 3.04l is any better. So far it has booted three times correctly.

Thanks

I'm afraid I'm way back on 3.04f.128, the first one for HT if your 8887 was shipped without it. It works fine. This post refers. Didn't know they'd had so many since then.

Boot Problems, HT?

I am having boot up problems with the backlite on the display not working most of the time when running off of battery.

Also, forgive the ignorance, but what does HT stand for?

HT is Hyper-Threading, inanutshell, making a single processor (that is HT capable) appear and function as multiple processors (currently 2 I believe). Your system and applications can then multi-task better. Surf on Intel.com for the technical overdose.

i have the intermittent boot problems, the chaps at sager said i had to go back to an older BIOS, though its been more often than not, first time i switched it on it froze.

i am currently using 1.01 R3.05d.128 I have the HT cpu too
they sent me the file 887bv304.dat

just creating a boot disk to update now, after my power brick died and i couldn't get sswitched on luckily mark at sager overnighted me a new one.

boot disk created.

self extractor contains 887R4304L.128

Just waiting for the mem check to complete...snooooze...

doh, reboot and set the Floppy drive as boot first i kept getting a complaint from the CD drive about not being there or invalid at boot, so i changed the order to HD first, thinking who boots from floppys these days! , reboot again, skip test..

(bootdisk from http://www.bootdisk.com btw )

i want to back up the old rom so i ran flash to see if any options, it seemed to freeze.

fp is the program that runs to flash though, which is kapok computers flasher, couldnt see a way to get the bios backed up, hoping it'll give me the option to do it when it flashes as other flashes do.
umm nope, so its erasing. programming.done turn off.
ok back on, its R3.04L.128, i hate this ctrl alt s malarky, i prefer the old Del key.
bios settings look ok, HT option is still there so thats good.. somtimes flashing a bios resets the defaults

booting XP pro, and its loaded. didnt seem to remove or detect any changes which is good, taskman still shows HT enabled.

rebooted it a few times, no freezes yet. I'll try it for a few days and report back.

it'd be interesting to get a list of changes/fixes between the two bios'es so i know what to expect if anything.

dited link: doh sorry, its bootdisk.com not boot disk"s".com darn cybersquatters.

Update on no backlite boot problem

Well, my laptop is back in the shop. Hopefully the techs will be able to determin why and fix the backlite problem.

I will post the results as soon as I know whats up.
Probably Monday.

Turn around time is great. Thats a plus. Bummed about it being in a second time.

Hi,

It has been more than three weeks since I flashed BIOS version 3.04L. The booting problem has not reoccured. My notes show that I have booted the system at least 30 times in just the last week (more on that in another posting).
