Base system device error and Unknown bios error

I have a few questions
I just reformatted my machine. I have a question mark under my device manager for a "Base system Device" I'm not sure what it is. I've installed all of my drivers like AGP and Video and Sound and all that. I left of the IDE drivers becuase someone said they had better performance without them. Anyways, if anyone knows what this "Base system Device" is I'd appreaciate the help.

Also, when I boot up, I get an error message everytime now. After the machine loads my external hard drive, its says that I have a unknown bios error. then it displays "error code =14 0085" All I have to do is press F1 to get it going again. I guess since the pc says its an unknown error no one will know, but I'm taking a gander that someone will. I would try to look this up myself, but I'm in China and my internet is not as fast as I'm used to in the states.

"Base System Device" is your card reader, I had the same problem. If you dont use it jst disable the device, otherwise the drivers should be on your alienware Master CD, if not get a tech support guy to send 'em to you. As for the other prob, cant help there im afraid. Godo Luck treading these tricky alienware waters.

ON second thought, its looks as if your external HD is not being recognised properly by your bios. As with all your drives i think(not sure) it should be listed in your bios. Try uninstalling the HD and reinstalling it again, read the install notes carefully look for any mention of a settings change in the BIOS. Also check the manufacturers website for updated software/firmware etc.

Base system device was my micro card reader. its fine now. Thanks.
I'm still working on the bios error.
