Second thoughts with i9100 purchase

Well, I ordered the 9100 yesterday thinking I got the best notebook for what I paid. But now I'm having second thoughts... Should I have gotten something a little less bulky and more mobile like the i8600? I want to be able to bring this notebook to school everyday. I hope I made the right choice with this notebook. I do a lot of gaming and will put a lot of use to this notebook. I guess what I'm asking is if anyone here has been disappointed with their 9100 at all and/or has returned it for another notebook. Here's what I ordered:
3.2 ghz Prescott w/ HT
Mobility Radeon 9800 256mb
7200rpm 60gb hdd
1 Gb PC3200 Ram
Bluetooth Adapter
1350 Wireless
8X DVD burner (Is this flashable??)
Extra 138Whr Primary battery
15.2" WUXGA

Dell 9100 purchase

Hi,

i also bought a 9100 with a very similar spec to yours and i do not regret it! For mobile LANgaming it's great and the bluetooth/wifi options are very useful for home wireless networking.

Tip for you, i flashed my 6100A drive no problem to +/- with this -

Use the 6500RPC1 file from windows (At your own risk of course!)

Hope this helps

I have the 9100 as well.

no regrets. sure, I'd love a longer battery life. everytime I'd run a game while I'm encoding video, I remember how happy I am with the purchase.

Don't worry about, I take my i9100 everywhere , school, work, the bathroom, it's heavy, but you get used to it, just make sure you get a good bag, and when you get to class, sit next to a wall with an outlet and plug it in. These are the best machines for mobile gaming.

Amen, that's how I feel too. At first when I had a messenger case, I didn't want to carry it anywhere. Well, I bought a Targus TSB315 and now I carry the notebook everywhere. Yes, it's big, but it is the best bang for the buck if you want to game and go to school.

BTW, you state you have a 15.2" WUXGA, it's a 15.4" WUXGA.

Mine goes everywhere with me. Great for gaming and work. Well, aprt from Doom that is. Refuses to run without freezing!!

My bag is really toughly made. With slightly elastic shouder strap with aids comfort.

while not in school, I use mine for work, and any old laptop could have done for that. but I wanted to have a mobile gaming platform for other times.

For example, I went to a family reunion this weekend and friday and saturday night I dialed in from the hotel and played the WOW stress test. How many people get to go on the road, and simply plug in and have their desktop machine with them

I understand your caution, simply wait until you've used this puppy for a day or two. After you've tried a couple games and other stuff, you'll be sold, it's a rock solid lappy and a great portable gaming system

i take my 9100 everywhere too. i even ride the bike trails off road on my way to work (mountain bike). if you find the 9100 too heavy, then it's time to join a gym

haha, actually I'm quite fit. I guess I'm just feeling the post-buying guilt that comes with spending tons of money on something. I'm hoping this notebook will last me at least 2 years.

considering you bought it with the 9800 radeon, it will last much longer than the 8600 with a measly (comparatively that is) 9600 radeon.

And of course the 9100/XPS is the only laptop out there that currently runs the 9800 Mobility....

Buy i9100

I just recently got my i9100 and I am loving it. I also have a i8600,if you are going for a laptop for the same price go for the i9100.Although lot of people complain about the weight and the heat ..etc my computer absolutely runs silently you will hear the fan only when you run some games ..etc.It DOES NOT run hot. There is no major differnce in the weight between i8600 and i9100.It is almost the same.I would highly recommend you to go with i9100 since you can both use it for productivity and also gaming.
