A little confused on video driver????

Hey everyone, I received my laptop yesterday and I love it. My only complaint is the bag that I ordered with it to carry it in. Why would you make a bag that is to small. You can barely stuff the laptop in that bag, and about the top 3 inches of the laptop are not protected by the padding inside. Is the backpack any better????? The only question I have about the performance of my laptop is conderning the video driver. I have the ati 9700 card and the driver it cam installed with was 6. something. I downloaded the latest omega driver and installed that over the top of the one already on there, it said you could do that. I then installed farcry, and the only settings I could play it on where low. When I tried increasing all of the settings to high, the gameplay was VERY slow. Does anyone have any ideas on what driver I shoud use and hints on how to configure the video card, as far as all the settings go.

You need to completely uninstall drivers (Add/Remove Programs), reboot to native XP driver support and re-install the new ones.

From my review:
Quote:
Specifically, in Far Cry, I was able to max out the LCD’s resolution (1680x1050) and set all settings to “Medium” and still maintain a fluid, thirty frames per second (fps). Setting it to “High” drops the frame-rate to about twenty, but it is a stable, fluid, very-playable twenty. Lowering the resolution to 1280x1024 enables you to run the game at “very high” at a stable 25-35 fps, while decreasing it even more to 1024x768 lets you play at 45-60 fps.

Thanks for the response. When you say install the new ones, what driver are you talking about. Like I said, the omega driver said you could install it without uninstalling the old one. Should I uninstall just the omega driver now, or should I uninstall all drivers for the video card and download which one???

uninstall all video drivers, then install the omegas (dont forget to uninstall the ati control panel as well)

Yea. As Seph said, uninstall the stock and omegas, then run this program: http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/ to make sure everything is gone the re-install Omegas.

I think we should also remember that Far Cry does not run on high settings on these laptops...or any other for that matter. Its a very resource hungry program.
