Switch from Compaq X1000 to CL56 ???

Hello Guys,

At the end of August, I purchased a Compaq X1000 Laptop (HP zt3000) from Costco (6 month return policy) for $1450. It has 1.6 Centrino (Dothan), 512 Ram, 40GB 4200rpm hd, CD-RW/DVD, 64mb radeon 9200 and 15.4'' Widescreen XGA Display (1280x800). While this laptop has been enough for me (college student), i have been thinking about buying a CL56 from mwave or velocitymicro. For the same money, i could upgrade to a 1.7 Centrino, a 60gb 5400 rpm hd, radeon 9700, and 15'' SXGA display. personally i have found the widescreen display rather useless for everyday tasks (see less webpages, wallpaper wont fit right). Anyway, how would you compare these two systems and can you give me any recommendations whether to return the compaq and get the CL56 or not or even recommend another system. Thanks in advance.

If you are happy with the paq, you might want to keep it. In all respect the CL56 is a great computer and will school your x1000 in everything. However, the screen on it isn't as great as you might have gotten used to with the paq, namely, the view angles. I have a wxga and although the games get stretched and wallpaper is a bit off, i wouldn't trade it for an sxga personaly.

the upgrade in performance is negligible unless u game or do heavy tasking and the difference in weight is also not that great. wxga certainly has much better viewing angles than a sxga+ (spec. the x1000 vs. cl56 cuz i've seen both). unless u prefer a 15" over a 15.4" i would stick with the x1000. (unless u want a lighter laptop in which case go with the arima m620 series)

Keep your compaq. After seeing lots of widescreen notebooks after I got my cl56, I'd gladly trade my laptop in for a lesser spec'ed widescreen laptop.
