Call of Duty (Freezing Problems)

Thread Starter
Hey how are you guys/girls doing (being politically correct) I am a new owner of a XPS laptop and loving it. I installed UT 2004 with no problem the game runs like a dream. My next game was Call of Duty great FPS stratedgy shoot em up game. I installed it cleanly but when i play it freezes up at the oddest times. I went to the activision.com/support website and followed the instructions (reducing the hardware acceleration/reducing the resolution/etc.) worked for a little while then started freezing again. if you have any ideas holla thanks....

I downloaded the first demo (not dawnville) and had the same issue. I would be playing and then it would just lock up for no reason.

I downloaded the Dawnville demo and had no problems.

I toyed with my drivers (version, omegas) and now I can play the first one okay now.

Seems to be driver or game update related. Keep tweakin on it and you'll get it.

I found the ATI catalyst 4.7 work pretty good (havent tried 4.8 on CoD)

Hope this helps.

You are obviously using the Dell stock video drivers, aren't you. Even the newest released ones are still causing this, although I am not sure why. If you disable hyper-threading in the BIOS, it will work fine. The better fix is to install the Omega drivers. They have yet to cause a lock-up for me. You can get them here. Just make sure you uninstall the ATI control panel first.

Good luck and welcome to the club.

Yes get the omegas, all of your problems will be solved... no performance reducing necessary!
