Sony's New Laptop with 5600 go &LCD screen

Once again, doing some more surfing and came across Sony's brand new laptop that is sporting an LCD screen similar to Toshiba's if not better, and the Geforce 5600 go graphics card.

Here is the link to the news site to read up on it .

Sony PCG GRT190G

And here is the link to the PDF site for the specs.

I'll tell you what, this laptop looks great physically, and seems to have an arsenal of features available on it. Excluding hyperthreading and a 3.06ghz processor.

Waiting is getting to be almost impossible on my end. Friend of mine is buying my desktop in two weeks, and I am getting a laptop regardless of what the hell is coming out in July or August.

The 5600 GO is a damn good video card, and with the introduction of these new super LCD screens it's hard not to resist biting.

A small update upon reading a bit further. Expect to pay about 4000 dollars plus for this thing fully configured.

They must be partners with Voodoo PC in their pricing strategies.

That's nice... and it has 16.1" UXGA screen unlike 15" UXGA on Toshiba. Now, if the new Sony 16.1" LCD screen look like the Toshiba one then we still have some hope that new Sager might have an option to get this beautiful screen or maybe we will have to wait to get it on Sager 889x.

Yes after seeing the CASV display in the stores on the Toshiba, I have decided that is the screen I want on my next laptop. But I dont want a Toshiba, I want a Sager 5680. Maybe there is a small chance that the new Sager will include a similar display..I hope so, I'd even be willing to (gasp) wait a little longer on a 5680 if I had an approximate estimated date of when it would receive the CASV display...

Hell yes and im right with ya Hayesb2, though im wanting the 16.1 inch screen. We have been waiting for over a year about man and shelling out 2grand+ 3+ for me is not a simple task. My one gripe is the lcd on the 8887 since some people say it has ghosting when playing games at a fast pace.

well im a hardcore gamer just as GG gamergal and I want to have no flaws when it comes to gaming or watching dvds. Waiting a tad more for a screen as this new sony has or one at least as good as the 5670 I can do.

Since I cant edit the damn thing

By august/september I truly believe sager will have a nother lcd to upgrade to or at least one by the end of the year. So many new lcds for laptops are coming out and sager would be crazy not to step up to the plate and deliver

there all about extreme new technology just as the future beasts shall have. So I believe we will have a option to upgrade to a new lcd if not actually already having a new lcd for the 5680 since that will be out a bit longer after the 8890 is out.

Had any of the posts about the new laptops coming to Sager mentioned anything about a new LCD? I can't remember any changes that I can think of. Maybe I am wrong.

OH YEAH! This is a good sign...with the releases from Toshiba and Sony the pressure is on for HP and Dell to make new product announcements incorporating the new technology. That means within the next month there will be alot of choices.

Although I don't like all the proprietary drivers/technology that is loaded on the Sony's, this new mobile DVD+RW/DVD-RW combo looks very attractive. Do you think it will be possible to buy this drive on the open market and install it in another computer?

Nope but that doesnt mean there wont be a new one available this year

You must be braver than I am if you are willing to purchase a Sager with the hope that a new equivalent to Toshiba/Vaio screen upgrade might come out during the year!!!

Or if you plan on waiting for the Sager to come out with a screen upgrade, even though still not announced, you must have guts of steel!!!

let me tell you

I wont be geting a laptop anytime soon, probably be in jan or feb to be exact. Was going to get one around august or so but since I wont be going into the navy until september I wont be able to get a lappy till around january or so. There will definitely be a new lcd out by then for sager regardless of what you might think

also it is possible there will be a new one this year in 2003 even if there isnt a new one for the coming sagers that doesnt mean you wont be able to upgrade to a new lcd when it comes available

We are probably all in agreement here that Sager will hopefully come out with a quality screen that's in the same class as Toshiba's CASV and Sony's XBrite technology (or go one better given that they'll have more time to scope this out), but let's not jump to any conclusions or get overly excited until an official press release or confirmed rumor of this surfaces...ummm, Adam, is there anything you're hiding from us??!
Yes I hope so too, give it any marketing term 'CASV', 'XBrite', 'Fancy-Schmancy-Wow-Wee-Super-Sharp' I dont care as long as it rivals the quality of the CASV that I saw in CompUsa. I still cant believe the quality of that screen. That coupled with Sager's performance would be killer.

Hm...Sony didn't specify whether or not the 16.0' SXGA comes with the Geforce5600. Strange.

By the way, hi
go to the specs page and it tells you what you need to know. to get the 5200go, you need to have the 16.1 selected.

I just ordered the VAIO GRT with 2.8/1 gig ram/60 gig HD/wifi/dvd-cdr and the 16.0" SXGA screen, but ONLY after Sony's customer service assured me that the 16.0" SXGA comes with the Geforce FX GO5600.

The specs say 14"/15" comes with the Go420 and the 16.1" screens come with the GO5600....but say nothing about the 16.0"

I'd order the 16.1", but the native UXGA makes things too damn small. The 23.1" Planar LCD on my desk runs at that res and is just right

If this thing arrives with a 420 I'm gonna be pissed.

They seem to be very confused at the moment, with conflicting specs all over the place.

Oh well...for under $2k it's worth a shot

Excellent. Would you mind giving a quick review of the thing once you get it? The price range is certainly excellent.
