So my HD needs to be replaced but...

I emailed dell telling them about my recent hd clickings that have been going on. They said it would probably have to be replaced, but i need to run some diagnostic thing as well. Assuming the diagnostic thing determines that the hd is faulty and has to be replaced I was hoping I could be upgraded to the 60 gig 7200 rpm hd I currently have the 40 gig 5400 rpm. I wouldnt mind paying the extra $$ for it, but how would I go about doing this? Also Im at a different address from where they sent my original laptop and the parts i had sent in. Would there be a problem in them sending the hd to a different address in a different city? Can someone also tell me how long you can keep the parts before you hafta send them back? I live on campus and have decided to send the extra part to my sisters house because i dont understand how the mail system works here . Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

Sometimes they never ask for the bad parts back. I asked the same question when I lost a drive on my old I8000. They don't care if you're willing to pay full price, they won't replace it with anything different then what you were shipped with.
You can purchase that drive here:

- Go to dell.com, click on My Account, log on, and change the address that is associated with the machine (Service Tag).
- Wait 2 - 3 days
- Then call Dell and ask a CSR to verify your current address. If it is not the current address then ask them to manually update it for you.

It is best to get the address corrected before you have the hard drive replaced.

Im having a new thought here. If i kept this hd as an external hd would it still click? Im assuming so, but I just want to make sure. Also could someone fill me in on the process and how i would go about getting the enclosure and such for my this external.
