Sager 3790 or Asus M6BNe

Thread Starter
I am just about ready to buy a laptop and currently I am leaning towards the M6BNe. Would any 3790 owners like to convince me of just how much better a 128mb MR9700 performs compared to a 64mb? Currently this is the ONLY difference I care about. Am I going to have to settle for Medium in doom3, or would I be able to run High on this 64mb card? What kind of frame rates can be achieved on High at 640x480 (using the ATI shader performance tweak if you must)? Here is what I came up with comparing these:

ASUS M6BNe:
1. Lighter
2. Runs cooler
3. Supports dual batteries
4. Reseller (PROportable) uses AS5 and checks for dead pixels before shipping for free

Sager 3790:
1. Better performance and longer lifetime due to the 128mb video card

What affects performance more in doom3? Resolution or detail level?

If you ever plan to play D3, the answer is 3790.

D3 will require the 128mb much more than older games...

If you are a HEAVY gamer, 3790, otherwise look at my sig
Also, if AS5 is what you want I suggest you check out www.powernotebooks.com and more specifically their Elite program - as5, 1 year no dead pix, option for high-performance Corsair XMS RAM.
Proportable is a very respectable dealer but PN is even better and has lower prices.
Good luck it is a tough choice.

detail level is the crippling factor

To me, the M6 is more versatile and truely a MOBILE workstation.

The Sager beats it in performance, but the weight, dimensions, and price are turnoffs

I love my M6Bne

@awingedpig - and the looks of the battery, too. I like the Asus, if they offered the 128mb of vram, i think i would have bought it, and not the Mitac :sigh:

We know it's a very good notebook, capable of great gaming experiences (for a notebook). However, my concern is how it will handle D3. I repeat, the M6[b]N[e] is a _great_ notebook.

i was sold on the m6bne until the 3790 came out... woulda went for m6bne w/ wsxga if they sold it in north america, tho the 3790 is an awesome laptop none the less

i would have to say i sacrificed the dual battery and cool lights for the better screen and vid card... otherwise no diff

i have seen both lappies in person... and they both hot... just two different flavours

and as others are saying... the choice depends on ur needs... if need to game or need higher res screen go with 3790... if only for office work and movies, and light gaming, go with m6bne
