2 beeps at start up

When starting my 51m i get 2 quick beeps soon right after pressing the start button,, i use to get 1 beep only,,, but since getting 2 beeps i have done alittle investigating,, i have a AMI Bios,, i have read that 1 beep means alls ok,, but 2 beeps means there is a parity problem. which says that it cant access the first 64k of memory,, which it refers to the ram memory..
now i called AW , and they have told me, thats ok,, and if the computor is working, then theres no problem,,,hahaha,, i guess in their world, is that unless the systems smoking or flames are seen coming out the vents,, then,, theres no problem,,
well i started having problems since last time i called them about windows would not re-install,, and they had me swap out, re-seat and then use one stick of memory,, well finally got windows installed,, but lately the system has been alittle weird,, and the beeps started,,,
like i said, called AW, and they said, alls ok,,, but i took out 1 stick at a time, and i believe i narrowed it down to one stick, causing problems,,

has anyone else had this problem before ? and did the new ram fix problem ?

2beeps is GOOD news.
1beep is BAD news.

If your talking about an Area-51M notebook the beep codes are discussed here in this knowledge base thread on Alienware's site. If your talking about another system I am not sure as I only have the notebook.

Hmmm even more stranger,,, i have nothing hooked up to it,, no mouse no nothing and it still gives 2 quick beeps right after pressing the start button,,
sometimes its 1 beep,, then sometimes its 2 beeps,, then of course the one post beep, comes afterward, which i understand,, just cant figure out why i get 1 or 2 beeps and nothings connected,,
checked to see if running on batterys makes diff,,, not really,, sometimes it gives 1 quick beep, other times,, 2 beeps,,,, rehooked my mouse,, no diff..
wish i know exactly what is going on,, ,, oh if it was going to crap out,, i wish it would,,,lol,, driving me nutzs

I have always been under the impression that 1 beep means passed POST, and 2 is a memory problem, 3 is video, ETC. Regardless, you said yourself you narrowed it down to 1 stick of memory being the culprit. It is most likely defective. If it is still under waranty, send it back. There are lots of memory testing programs out there, you can download one and see if you get errors. there are several free ones on

well, i enabled the bios to post the info when starting up the computor,,
i recheck memory,, seems to be performing ok,, im kinda 50/50 about the memory, cause i think there is some kind of mem leak, but haven't been able to narrow down to exact..
back to BIOS post info,,,
at start-up,,, i have noticed that when it acknowledges mouse usb hook-ups it shows 3......then other times it shows 2,,,, i disconnected my USB mouse and still sometimes it shows 3 or 2 at start up and the beep codes chage with the diff of the hooked up devices,,, so i beleive it is recognizing a conflict of mouse hook ups, or there is a driver conflict,, so i will try and remove and reinstall the touchpad driver and also R/R the USB mouse too..
hopefully this will resolve the problem, will post if the reinstallation of drivers fixed this problem..
