3790 Heat

Just got my 3790 and I absolutely love it.

However, it does seem a bit warm to me particularly underneath when sitting on my lap and the left wrist. Warm enough to be almost annoying.

This is my first Sager and coming from the Dell Latitudes, is this kind of heat normal in these higher performing laptops?

Please advise.

Others have posted that it seemed a little warmer than they would like so yours is probably normal.

Are you blocking the vents on the bottom when it's on your lap?

different people have different tolerance to heat... so what may be burning for me may be cool to u

for me the thing is very cool... even the underside... the only place there's a bit of heat is the left front side, both top and bottom... but it doesn't bother me at all

The vents were a bit blocked when I had it on my lap but then I had it running on a table and it still seemed warm.

Even the touchpad emits warmth unlike any other laptop I have used in the past. Once again, it is "warm" but not "hot". However, I am concerned about the temperature of even the touchpad.

Any more suggestions/thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Mine, too, is warm over the left palm rest and thumb pad. What I've done to ameliorate this is to apply Pam to my fingertips and palms. This does nothing to prevent burns, but it does stop blistering skin from annoyingly sticking to my laptop.

The warmth in these areas is noticeable, but is certainly not uncomfortable. Why does its presence worry you?

Just concerned if it is too warm. My "older" laptops did not have this kind of warmth in the front and just wondering if it is just the way the laptop is.

I'm sure it'd be much warmer if you went with a P4 or AMD64 CPU. It'll be warmer than mist people's previous laptops for the simple reason that there's stuff in there that has the potential to heat up more, like 7200 RPM drives and memory. The faster the speed, the warmer it'll get. It isn't hot enough to cause a rash or blister your skin, if that's what's worrying you.

Awesome - thanks all. After playing with it more - it does seem to "heat" to a certain point then level off. This is definately not a "lap" top but it is one terrific machine. Rock solid, amazing screen, and great design.

Glad I found these forums before I purchased something else.

oh it is a laptop...

was playing nfs underground on it for like 2.5 hrs on my lap while doing laundry last nite... heat was negligible... it's like putting a pillow on ur lap... warm, but definitely acceptable

Yeah, my sager seems to heat up a little bit too. I think it's normal.

I have mine running during the night sometimes, and the fan will still occasionally come on and the harddrive will be at about 42-43 celcius....Is there anything I can do to keep it cooler at night or times when it's really only sitting there running trillian? I've read of the harddrive utility for hitachi drives, but mine is a toshiba harddrive.
