3790 as HD display instead of Apple Cinema

Ok so now that I've ordered one I'm starting to think about uses for the 1920x1200 screen...

and of course HD resolution is one of them - the screen can display pixel for pixel full 1080p High Definition video (which is 1920x1080)

People have been doing this with Apple Cinema displays for a while - but now that I started looking I realise that while there are many ways one can feed video OUT of your laptop - svideo, RGB out etc etc...(even those MARGI cardbus cards) - I have no idea how one can use the display panel to show INCOMING video...

obviously firewire is one of those ways - or some kind of other capture card...

but what if you just wanted to monitor HD video...is that even an option ?
anyone heard of something like this...

I know this isn't necessarily the right forum to ask this stuff - but I figured you guys might know this better than some of the video guys - who are not all that technically minded.

Thanks

Nick

Nice idea but it won't work...
Or rather it might but it would be a real pain - HD cameras output HD-SDI - and while you can get converters to take that into DVI

http://www.miranda.com/product.php?i=250&l=1

or

http://www.ecinemasys.com/

but unfortunately none of them can go into laptops...(once you had the DVI plug you still can't go INTO the graphics card...) - if you could somehow make the RGB out of the graphics card an RGB in you could do it..

It's almost as though you'd need some way to "bypass" everything in the laptop and just view direct to the screen (sort of like the old Zoomed Video stuff was working I guess)...

Thanks for any and all suggestions...
