700m - good laptop sleeve? - Page 2

has anyone actually tried fitting the 700m w/ extended battery into the 12" shinza? or the 15" shinza? i would really like to know the details of how they fit or if the 12" could stretch enough to accomodate a 700m with the extended battery. the shinza seems to be the nicest sleeve for protection out there.

any other protective sleeves to consider for 700m?

yichen - Thanks for the responses. I went to the link you posted for your shoreline sleeve and found that the exterior dimensions of that sleeve are comparable to the interior dimensions to the shinza sleeve. Since you said that your 700m fits perfectly into that shoreline one, as far as dimensions are concerned, it seems as though the 700m should fit just fine in that 12inch shinza case. Could you possibly take some measurements of that shoreline case and see how it compares to the manufacturer specs that shoreline lists?

On a different note, my friend was curious as to why you still had your foam pad in your shoreline sleeve; just for more protection?

Thanks again!

thanks for the pics yichen. is the shoreline case good for small impacts and bumps or is it just like a "2nd skin" that protects against scratches?

i'm curious about the shinza also... it'd be great if someone could try fitting a 700m+extended battery into one, with pics.

i'm sure the shinza protects a lot better. But i already have a padded backpack, so i just figured i'd save a coupla bucks. Also, i haven't had any luck with shinza. Called them during the day, no one picked up. E-mailed them, called me back like 3 months later, i'd forgotten that i'd e-mailed them. They don't seem very together over there.

J & R is a very well know comp., and they got me my shoreline sleeve in like 1 day!!!

It does the job.

bnguy, measurements coming later tonight

just ordered the shinza. too expensive though.
cost me total $38.77
shipping was over $6 and plus tax. that's a lot for a sleeve. It better fit or else I don't know what to do with a $40 sleeve.
i'll post more info when i get it.

if it's too big...take it to your local Upholstery shop, and see if they can make it smaller for you. They'll take it apart at the seams, cut it to the correct dimensions, and re-sew it. My mom has a upholstery shop in the area, and she gets a few requests like these per year. I think she even made some lady a custom iPod case out of her old Louis Vuitton bag!

They'll probably charge $10-20 for labor, but it's better than not being able to use your nice new $40 sleeve, and this way, you'll know that it'll fit perfectly. I'm actually thinking about getting a larger one on purpose, and getting this done.

oh so he bought the 15"? pics of the 700m inside the 15 incher would be cool, to see how much extra space is in it.
no i actually ordered the 12 in one. hopefully it stretches a little. if it doesn't fit, i can always ebay it for powerbook people.
i don't think they have any in stock, i'll post pics asap when i get it

How much do the sleeves really help? I have my pack and have considered getting a sleeve for my 8500, and tossing it in my LL.Bean bag with some books, but I worry that the books are gonna smoosh my dear lappy.
well, with a sleeve, your books may still smoosh your baby if you've got too many books in your backpack.

The only reason why i have a sleeve is cause' my backpack isn't always the cleanest, but my sleeve is 100% dirt free, so it keeps crap from gettin' on my baby. There's still room for small pieces of trash ta get into your notebook even when you have the LCD closed, and that trash could potentially scratch our beautiful LCD. Sleeve also keeps my notebook from gettin' scratched by other things in my backpack, spiral notebooks, pens, crap like that.

Fett101, if you're interested, my 8600/D800 sleeve is for sale, it's made by case logic. I was a perfect fit for my 8600/D800, so i'm sure it'll fit your 8500.

hmmm....I like that case. Not to use as a case, but as a sleeve inside my Tumi Backpack. I wonder if they have it at all Gaps. Can you post the item number?
