Help w/ "Wireless Button Status" window on 1557

Just installed SP2 on my Aopen 1557 (w/ Intel 2200 wireless card) and now the "Wireless Button Status" window stays up for over 60 seconds after activating the wireless card w/ the button. This is a bit annoying as the window does not have a close or minimize button and is "always on top". Before installing SP2 it would stay up for about 3 seconds. When it pops up on the de-activation of the card, it's only up for 3 seconds.

Just curious if anyone else noticed this and had any ideas on how to fix it. I believe I have all of the latest drivers installed (they haven't been updated in quite a while). Thanks.

yeah, my computer does that too. I just kinda move the window down to my taskbar, so it's not in the way

Mine did the same...

I found if you make sure the box is selected and just hit escape it goes away.

That works for me, too (as long as no other window is behind it). Thanks for the tip!

I have the same problem with my 1557G. It's not the status diaglog box that bothers me, it's the time that it takes to connect. Before I installed SP2, Windows would connect to my wireless network within 1 or 2 seconds of pressing the wireless buttom. Now it takes a minute!

Does anybody have a solution?

Escape you say? Hmm I gotta try that.
Oh ****, just tested it, and you have solved my little problem.
thanks.

Guys this is a problem with SP2. The card makes a ping, then it takes minutes to finally aquire an ip adress.

The best thing to do is to use the card makers own wireless utility and to disable xp wireless zero config service.

For example I have an intel 2200 b/g wifi card, so I use intel's proset wireless utility, and have xp disabled.

The advice from Aopen was to uninstall the wireless card from device manager in safemode and then reinstall in normal mode.

Worked for me. Now back to near-instantaneous connection on pressing the wireless button, as per pre-SP2 installation.

I tell you what I did. I just went to the system restore and restored to where I was before (S1). The wireless issue just got the best of me. I will wait until a fix or new drivers are released to fix this.

Just an update on the intel wireless and SP2.

I upgraded the driver to this one from the intel site

http://support.intel.com/support/wir.../CS-010623.htm
8.1.1.0
8.1.0.47
8.1.0.28
Latest Release
Download and Release Notes (at the bottom)

and now my wireless starts just as quick as before, but you still have to hit the escape key to get rid of the status box quickly. This happens on gateways and other notebooks with the intel wireless card and SP2. It might be something to do with the launcher or AV manager drivers.

I have the same problem, so i don't use the button very often, if i use the button i just press alt-f4 when it stays too long.
