how is this screen in relation to the sager wide angle uxga?
I think the Sager has the highest actual viewing angle LCD available now.

But what about quality wise?
well supposedly they both support the same resolutions with the exception of the d800 that can go up to 1920 x 1200 I think?

There is more to "quality" in LCD screens then resolution . The exact specifics of each different LCD screen are difficult if not impossible to get. Most companies don't want to release that exact information to you from what I gather. As of right now the Toshiba and Sony LCD screens are going to be your top notch quality since they have new technology, but I dont' even think they have the viewing angles that the 5xxx series has.

I dont know about that, have you seen the new toshiba in person? From what people have said and what I have read its superior in viewing angles and about anything when it comes to viewing. The sony as well looks to have fantastic wide viewing angles....which im dieing will come to sager eventually.

I've seen the Toshiba screen in person. I have not seen the 5670 screen, but I have seen the Dell 8500 WUXGA. I can safely say the Toshiba screen is leaps and bounds better than the Dell. I tested the Toshiba's viewing angles and I could see it from all angles. The display does have a glass look to it, so it has reflections when looking from an angle, but thats no different than a CRT, and certainly wasnt distracting. I actually had the salesman take the laptop off the secured holster and carry it over to the CRT's and flat panels and hold them up side by side. The Toshiba screen had them all beat. There was 1 CRT in the store that had the same quality, but thats it.
I still want a Sager, but I want a Sager with this type of screen. I truly never would've thought that a screen could sway my decision so much, but I have seen the light my friends and now there is no turning back. I am just hoping that Sager gets this screen or else makes an announcement that they will sometime in the next 4-6 weeks.

beating crt and lcd desktop screens would be kind of tough but here is hoping it does

hayesb2 - I agree fully with you about the monitor on the Toshiba. I really have been thinking Sager all this time and this makes me think. If it only wasn't $2800...hmmm.

If you want to compare the Sager 5670 screen specs to the Dell's just check out this link http://forums.us.dell.com/supportfor...age.id=117916.

Just scroll down to the 4th message and this click the link to "show" details. It will pull up the stats for the Dell LCD screens. Keep in mind that the 5670 has an 85 degree viewing angle and 400:1 contrast ratio.

DireWolf - I read some other reviews on the Toshiba screen and thought the exact same thing. I didnt think a laptop lcd could rival the top CRT or desktop flat panel. So I went to CompUsa expecting a letdown due to the overhyped screen. Wrong.
I am serious about the screen. You should go check it out. If you do go to Compusa and look at the Toshiba come back here and post what you think of the screen too. I'm willing to bet you will think its amazing. I was so impressed I came real real close to buying right there, but the 2.4Ghz for $2700 kept me from biting. Had it been $500-600 less I would've taken it.
I am going to wait for the 5680 pricing to come out and decide from there...

Bigshloss - I am in the exact same boat as you my friend. Keep me posted on what you decide to do...

yeah i saw the toshiba at the store today, it was great looking, no ghosting on the dvd demo on there
post #18 of 19
Dont judge the screen quality just on viewing the dvd demo. I saw the dvd and it was good, but I was most impressed when viewing the desktop and different apps, internet explorer, etc..

I must be living in a third world country within the USA. I went to the local Compusa store yesterday, and they had no clue what I was talking about when I asked about that toshiba.....
