Mmmm...Laptop Dual Layer DVD goodness...for $140 - Page 3

I just had a note in from my supplier, they are available in Europe also, we're shipping them from now on for 140€ w.o. Tax/Shipping.

They seem to be more expensive in Europe then in the states

ok...hmmm will it fit a 8790?

It would fit any notebook as it is a standard size but some notebooks have a fancy front bevel (rounded, painted, etc...) and you would loose that in some cases.

Kylekatarn,
I don't know of any shops in Canada. T o my knowledge, Newegg is one of the few places which even carried the 6500a's predecessor, the 5500a, in the US. Will Newegg not ship to CA? Also, I couldn't find anything in CA, so I dug up this link for ocntacting NEC in North America. Good luck!

Thanks for the link,

I will email them...

And for you guys, here is an interesting link to buy the nex burner in the USA (it's more expensive than newegg but not too bad ) :

Another question : I suppose the burner will fit in a Dell Inspiron 8200, could you confirm that?

What about an aopen 1557gls..? looks like it should fix. maybe without the screw to hold the drive in, but the faceplate probably wouldn't match.

is there any way to switch out the faceplate on the drive so that it fits the side of my notebook?

question: what are the pros for having a dvd burner in your laptop, besides being able to burn on the go? I'm planning on buying an external enclosure/DL DVD RW drive for just about the same price. But I want to be making the right choice...thnx to anyone who could lighten my load of ignorance

Basically the same idea as DVD-RW except it can ONLY be read in a DVD-RAM drive.

I have been thinking about this drive, and I'm now considering just going with a good DVD-RW. DL discs at this time are also very expensive.

When I first considered a laptop, size is a major issue. I don't want to carry around extra drives, extra batteries or powercables (except for the main one). I'm looking to get a farily portable laptop with everything built into the chassis.

Some people don't mind having an external drive or many extra batteries.

It is really your preferance.

For the external/internal DVDRW issue, i think the most important issue is how often - and where - you will burn your DVDs. Depending on that, you can have a faster, external one or a slower, much more practical internal one.

Yes, some people don't mind carrying them, but I believe that's not the deciding factor when buying one... at least it's not what happens more often... And by the way, I also do mind having external drives/spare batteries to carry.
