Acer got a PCI-E?? I mean how is it possible that Dell came out with the 9800 nearly a month ago and Alienware are not gonna have them in the Area 51-m at ALL??!!! How can this be the "ultimate" notebook, what is it so special about them other then the cool look and the apprently "good" customer support?

acer have just brought out a notebook with pci-e amazing to the model number for acer is the Aspire 1800

and dell had the cards a month ago because they brought exclutivity so that no one else coudl use it for a month but people could still develop it but not sell it and alienware developed it then gave up !!!

Dell had the MR9800 exclusive for the month of august, but seriously i cant beleive that AW have fallen so behind, and this BS about no peformance change with the MR9800, the 9800 has 8 pipelines while the 9700 has 4, and NO performance change UHHHH!!!

I hope AW are not giving this BS about not releasing the 9800 to make sure thay clear a possible backlog of 9700, then releasing it

Guys,

I recommend you read this thread before you draw any conclusions: http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=35228

You're just getting each other worked up over what is pure speculation...Alienware does not necessarily inform their sales reps about timeline of new products.

And to boot...

You don't see 9800's in Voodoo's, Hypersonics, Falcons, ect...so I wouldn't say Alienware is lagging terribly behind...truth is, we don't know anything about their roadmap.

Damn that Acer looks nice, and plus it has the PCI-E. Though the config is a bit crappy. There is no PERFECT laptop, though dell is coming closer to it then AW.

no but craig i spoke to the UK manager and he told me that all staff were infromed last friday that the 9800 was not being produced becasue it offerd no improvment in performance

so we can cross the 9800 OUT!

The dell UK website sucks look at this hard drive options page..thats why ill probably still stick to AW

40GB (5400rpm) EIDE ATA-100 Hard Drive
60GB (5.4000rpm) IDE Hard Drive [add £58.75 or £2/month1]
60GB (4200rpm) EIDE ATA-100 Hard Drive [add £105.75 or £3/month1]
80GB ULTRA ATA-100 Hard Drive [add £105.75 or £3/month1]
100GB ULTRA ATA-100 Hard Drive [add £223.25 or £6/month1]

Still i understand what your saying Craig, but come on AW should be a bit more up to date and informative, especially when saying it is the "the ultimate gaming machine"

I agree that with alienware u can get the best config not counting the Gfx card. Like u can get a double 60GB 7200Rpm HD which i didnt see in any laptop.

You cannot have two hard drives in the Area51m at the same time...they allow you to configure two on the order page...one is for backup/archive.

well you can fone the uk alien ware they ALL! hear that they all say the same thing for once lol
post #36 of 40
So if you get a second HD on the order page it will be external?
It will be an internal HD but you can only have one in at a time.
Bad news for me, now i will need to buy another external HD. Thanks for the info cos it was pretty important.
Actually, that's not true. If you buy the second hard drive from the website, it comes with a kit that lets you swap it in for the CD drive. Hence the name "Smart Bay". So you can have two hard disks at once, but only if you remove the CD drive.

True. Thanks for mentioning that Gossard.
