I am gulity as charged also. I was looking for a high end lappy to use for software development and graphics apps. I looked at Alienware and could afford their price if I really wanted one, but I really wanted 2 hard drives which they do not offer without giving up the optical drive. I saw a prostar on eBay which lead to a search of the internet for more info. I finally setteled on an 8890 from PCTorque and could not be happier.
As far as plunking down 3.5k$ (which I did) these forumns and reseller ratings is a lot more than you see reguarding AW, Hypersonic, Voodoo and many others. I am not to impressed with what has been comming from Dell, HPaq or Sony. I have seen brand new boxes arrive DOA from many big name vendors. There are risks no matter which you go. That is what is good about PCTorque they will help you get issues resolved.
BTW: I am not sure what I would buy now if I did not already have my 8890V, cause I do not like the wide-screen format as well as the standard aspect screen. The Dell XPS came out shortly after I bought my 8890, but I was not impressed with the 15.4 screen and the Acer with the 17" standard aspect screen uses desktop hard-drives which is a bad idea in my opion. I would like to see Sager/Clevo come out with a 8750 simmular to the 8790, but with an Athalon64 chip and PCI-E. Don't laugh, it will happen; it is just a matter of time.
