I just ordered my first laptop, an Inspiron 5150 with a 64M GeForce card. I don't know how to tell what kind of lcd monitor I have (an issue in itself). The only major thing I've done since I got the laptop from Dell was to upgrade to XP Pro and get the latest window updates. I have a few problems (which I think were present when I first got the machine):

(1) At 32 bit color I have to set my screen resolution to 1400x1050 to get something close to what a 1024x768 resolution looks like on a desktop. If I set my laptop resolution to 1024x768, it looks equivalent to a 640x480 (maybe even worse).
I've tried installing the most recent video drivers from Nvidia but that didn't seem to help. One thing that bothers me is that my monitor driver is Plug and Play...this signals to me that a more specific driver might be needed but I don't know which one to download or even if I can download one.

(2) On what is probably a related note...when I open some applications, some lines of text just get cut off...like they can't adapt format to my display settings. I don't really know how to explain it.

If someone could please help me get a handle on this that would be great! This is driving me nuts. Thanks.
