Game Problem

I recently formatted my 8890, and put on Winxp sp2 and the new cats (4.8). Now everything works damn good; except for warcraft frozen throne. The thing starts and then stops responding. Sometimes i can here the music of the intro but the screen never clears up. I just stare at the black blank screen and wait for a couple of min but nothing happens. What is wrong? My doom 3 works amazingly well and so do allt he other games. Help please....

maybe w3 is too old for the new drivers. you might have to switch back to older drivers to play it then switch back to the new ones for doom 3 etc

Yeah definitely try using some of the older sager drivers. That has fixed some of my problems in the past.

Sounds like the video playback problem that has plagued the Catalyst drivers since 4.7. If your game has a video intro, that would be causing the problem.

You can try opening the ATI control panel, and clicking the Troubleshoot tab, and move the slider so that you have disabled directdraw/direct3d acceleration, and try to start the game again. IF the intro plays, then the drivers are definitely causing the problem. Of course, the game might not start at all with direct3d acceleration disabled, so your best bet is to revert. I just loaded the Omega 2544 drivers, and that solved the video problem (though you won't get all the improvements in the last few batches of catalyst drivers).
