TV Tuner Freezes Computer after long time

Thread Starter
If I run the TV tuner software for a long time, the 8887 will completely freeze and the audio will continue. I have to hard boot the machine to get it back up and running. The laptop is set to not go into standbye or hibernation. Hyperthreading is enabled. Can someone help.

On a unrelated note, Microsoft windows update has some drivers for this TV card that do not work.

Comments?

i just came to the forum looking for answers for the same thing, any use of the TV in or dvd playback freezes the computer solid, on mine it takes about 5 minutes or so, about the point where in showgirls she slams the fries down on the table,

i have the same problem .. but at first i thought it is Ram Memory but when i readed this thread i realised that it is from tv tuner .. and i have temporary solution .. - go to the setup in the tuner soft
click on "Display surface mode " and set on PRIMARY .. this is a temporary solution because the full screen mode in Primary option doesn't work too good ;]

While I have a different machine (8790), I did experience some of the same problems when I had the internal TV Tuner configured. Two things caused the system to hang or just the video to hang. The first was MobMeter and the second was the good ole Microsoft Intellimouse. Under certain circumstances moving the mouse or moving the TV screen caused things to go "wacko". I switched to a Logitech Mx510 and have not seen the problem since. I have switched to an external tuner - it also had the same lock up issues until I swapped the mouse. Mobmeter, no longer appears to cause any problems with the external tuner. Oh, forgot to mention - similiar problems were sometimes observed while starting and/or watching a DVD.

Hey Noder, good to hear from you again. Did you ever get that USB port by the fingerprint reader slot working right? I went out and bought the Targus scanner to put in the slot, but don't have any software for it

Any idea where I can get a freeware or trial version of fingerprint reading software?

EDIT: My apologies for hijacking the thread. Noder, reply in this thread

Make sure you are running 4.24 version Avermedia drivers.
