Problem with my 8600

Well, I bought my 8600 a few months ago, and everything has been running flawlessly since then. Suddenly I ran into an extreme problem. The once blazing fast laptop now takes almost four minutes to get past the welcome screen at the begining of opeining windows. Can anyone please help me with any ideas of things I can do to fix the problem?
Thanks,
Evan

Computers will get slower in times when you install more software. Make sure you defragment your computer at least once a month. Also spyware could also lead to slowdown, it happened to me once take a blazing minutes to start a pc. If spyware is your problem, get spybot or any spyware removal tool

spyware.

i recommend ad-aware. it's very easy to use.

sp2 adds to a slower start up when loading windows for me.

maybe. but it should not take four minutes.

Try using Ad-Aware and Spybot, both of which can be downloaded after searching on Google.

I have ad-aware and stop-zilla. But they don't seem to be solving the problem. And I just defragged my computer yesterday, so I don't really know what the problem could be.

Is the 8600 docked to APR with USB devices? I had VERY long bootup issues with my 8600 APR when I mixed USB 1 and USB 2 peripherals. Still not sure exactly why. Dell doesn't know either. I identified the culprit by attaching one peripheral at a time to the APR with computer docked. Turned out to be my USB printer. When I turn the printer off, the 8600 boots normally, less than 30sec. When the printer is on, bootup takes anywhere from 5-8min.

Have you checked MSCONFIG to see what is loading at startup?

Kind of a newbie here. I also have an i8600, and in the last week it has also taken a long time to go through bootup. I did notice that the problem started after 2 separate software installs for me: SP2 and Norton Systemworks. I am not sure if these are causing this slow down, or what, but this is something to think about.

sp2 did it to me no doubt about it. takes a few more to load up but seems to run fine after.....

So I called Dell and they said the only solution was a reformat. So I reformatted the computer and things were working perfectly. THEN, my internet explorer began to malfunction. It will work fine for about five minutes and then it will not display pages I try and access. I've ran about every spyware check I can find...I've ran about three virus scans in the last hour, and I don't have a clue at what could be causing this problem. Any words of advice before I'm told that another reformat is the only solution? Thanks everyone!
