Just wondering if anyone has had luck with ddr400 ram? I've read a few posts with a 05-07 not working.

guess not..

The M68xx and the Voodoo Envy M:860 are the same laptop, the Arima W730-K8 DTR, with the exception that the Envy has an ATI Radeon 9700 with 128 MB of RAM. Since the Envy use PC3200 (DDR400) RAM, I would guess that the eMachines do as well. The only problem comes in that you should pull out all of the PC2700 RAM before putting the DDR400 RAM in. Otherwise, you might get some problems and instabilities.

sweet...yeah I just read that the bios was the problem and it's fine in the 6811 thanks Nychold

I have not personally tried it, but have seen users reporting failures with PC3200 in the m68xx. It could have been poor or incompatible memory, but I have yet to see anyone with success. With the chipset the machine uses, I don't see as where it would be a problem, but have read much to the contrary. I hope it was simply a BIOS issue and the m6811 BIOS will allow us to use the PC3200.

I've heard of a success story for 3200 iN m6811, I think it was posted on AMD's forums.

I've had more than a few discussions with Voodoo's President about the m:860. You should know that Voodoo is having difficulties instituting DDR-400 in the m:860. DDR-400 is not offered in the m:860. It is not the CPU, or the RAM, or the chipset, per-se that is causing the problems.

However the way that Arima has instituted the Via K8T800 chipset either hardware or software-wise, it can not use DDR-400. It only is completely stable with DDR-333.

Anandtech's review of the m:860 has said that "El-P" & Voodoo are working to get the motherboard/BIOS to accept DDR-400 but that they have no ETA.

Since the 6811 is the same thing as the m:860, I would REALLY like to see if the updated BIOS in the 6811 allows a STABLE DDR-400 system.

Any more news on the DDR400 front? Considering the 6811 and refuse to buy an AMD64 without the ability to run at full speed.

At least one person had success with DDR3200 RAM in gateway 7405gx. Check here Sizlersam's post..

Yah, I saw that post... but no one else seems to have tried it in the 6811. Are they that identical?

As I understand, as far as the hardware is concerned, all AMD64 computers should be compatible to PC3200 RAM. Its the Bios that may cause problems. So, using that gateway bios in any M680x laptops should solve that issue. Someone please correct me if I am wrong...Don't know if there is particular problem if RAMs with different speeds are used, apart from the fact that all RAM modules would run at the speed of the slowest one.

It's kinda weird but so many AMD64's ship with PC2700 (333) which prevents them from running FSB at 800 (as far as I understand it). I had ordered a Directpc.ca 258kao but they weren't sure it could take pc3200 (400) ... and, by the time they got back to me I had found the 6811 on sale at Future Shop... and snapped it up (like you really needed to know that). So, I'm a 6811 owner now! RAM prices are getting low once again.. so one strip of 1 gig DDR400 in this machine will probably do wonders across the board. If and when I do it... I'll post the results. :-)

The "FSB" still runs at 800MHz (1600 DDR) even with just PC2100 installed.

Well, excellent then! (so much for my understanding of stuff!).

Don't know if it's worth a lick but teh Emachines Tech I talked to Said that a stick of PC 3200 in my m6810 Will Run at 2700 Due to the main Memory being 2700. But he said it would work without adverse affects.
If you leave the PC2700 in then yes it will run at only 333DDR. The memory bus will run the memory at the speed of the slowest stick's SPD, in that case being the PC2700 (333DDR).

There are two ways around this:

Yank the internall memory like I did and replace with whatever you want, or unlock the bios so you can manually set the ram timings. I have not yet found a bios editor capable of this. I am still talking to some folks about this.

Modbin6 beta cannot read the code in our bioses. I hope a new version will be released soon.

Another thing is PC3200 SODIMMS are hard to find running at CL2.5 or 2.0. Most run at CL3 which will have greater latencys and will provide no benefit over PC2700.

There is software using a GUI inside windows you can use to set every RAM timing available. do a search for A64 tweaker.

Is there a user guied for A64 Tweaker somewhere? I haven't been able to find one on google.

My 6811 (0f07.p00; 5/13/2004) has been working well with Corsair PC3200 @ 200.5 MHz since Christmas. I ordered from newegg, I don't recall the newegg part number, but the part number according to CPU-Z is VS512SDS400. I'm using this memory in both slots.
