The exact specsl isted above.

Final price came down to 1442 dollars. Free shipping (2nd day too!)

Check the sticky in this forum for the latest dell coupons. I used the 175 dollar off 1499 or more inspiron coopon.

There is also a 200 dollar rebate for 700ms right now. So 1442 - 200 = 1242 TOTAL. Thats it, no tax, no shipping!

Ok heres the deal. I dont know what all your experiences has been with the 700m, but it has given me doubts. (Even though the configuration page does state its 7200 rpm, 60gb = ibm travelstar 7k60).

So.. I called up Dell, it went through customer care to technical support and they confirmed 100% it is a 7200 RPM HD that's in my order. If it is not, they said, they would send me the right one, no problems. THey gave me a case number and voice recorded record or something, and that basically gave me some relief.

So yea, please share where you guys got the news that 700ms don't carry 7k60s. Maybe they just started?

don't make me get out the firehose gentlemen..
Ill eat my 700 if it comes with the 7200 as I ordered mine with the 60gb one and it did not But I didnt care that it didnt also Force if you look on the config page a look at the help me choose where the HD are it plainly states no 7200 for the 700 so If I was you I would get ready to call back when you get it and ask for that drive

Ah yes I see now where it is, so Dell is basically out to trick us (you have to click details). THats ok, I will call them up right now again and see where it goes. If they continue to say its 7200 RPM, I will wait. If they say its not, Ill bring it down to 30gb and buy my own.

Thanks for the heads.
How are they tricking anybody? If the system is offered with a 7200PRM drive the configuration options on the site reflect that. I think that it is more a matter of some bad information given to you, not purposefully of course.
In some respects, I can see what ForceCalibur means. (Well, I wouldn't use the word "trick".) For those who are familiar with desktops, but unfamiliar with laptops might not know that the 4200 RPM drives are more "standard" ("common"? I can't think of the proper word). I think all EIDE drives nowadays are at least 7200 RPM with even faster drives, so some might just assume that laptop drives run at that speed, as well.

The information is there. It just takes a little digging. I think part of it is that Dell has to balance between giving enough information, but not saturate the average user with so much that it confuses them. In my family (parents, sisters, etc.) I think I'd be the only one who would care at what rotational speed my hard drive spins at. The rest would never game and so would probably never "miss" that loss in speed.

Nah.

Performance increase between 5400rpm and 7200rpm is very noticeable to the average person. Especially at boot up.

Just want to chime in here. I got in a heated discussion with a few dell reps because they said they would give me a 7200 with my 700m then later said they couldn't. BUT they also said they ONLY offered 4200 drives.
I sent three emails and placed three calls and finally I gave up and decided dell was full of $%^& due to the rep promising a 7200 (he made me wait 5 minutes to "make sure" he could do it. ANYWAYS, I finally let it go and I am now an owner of a 700m with a 60g 5400 drive!! (as shipped) even though they told me it would ship with a 4200. . . . so not exactly what I wanted but better. Lesson here is that they don't have a clue over there. (another guy told me ALL laptop drives were 7200) So my thought for the future is to get the least expensive drive and put one in yourself.
Side note: I think my 700m is going back haven't made up my mind completely, do I have 21days from order date or ship date or date I recieved the item? I think it is ship but would like to check. Thanks all.

P.S. will post my reasons for possible 700m return later this weekend
