thnx air, I'm waiting on Sager to email me the latest firmware, I think I dl'ed the old one by mistake so this way I'll know for sure I have the correct version. I don't think I have faulty parts, I just think that all of these crashes have taken their toll on Windows. I think I'll try to backup my stuff onto my friends comp, reformat/reinstall, install the new firmware and get back to lovin on my 4750 This machine is incredible and hopefully these soon-to-be-resolved-issues of mine can be forgotten and I can frag in peace

Are your fans constantly running at FULL CAPACITY from the second you post without ever scaling back? If so, you're using the older one. If they come on at 40*C at a low setting and ramp us as the temps rise, you're using the new one.

So, which is it? I'm curious since we got different temps.
yeah, it looks like I have the newer one after all, but I still get crashes sometimes when I startup especially the first time I try after it's been sitting out all night. Does yours come on at high speed once you get to POST?
They spin up when I start the computer but they don't actually stay on through Post. Try the older drivers Adam posted. I can copy and e-mail them to you if you didn't get them the first time.

Since I'm super anal, I've redone my AS5 application two more times. The second I made it a little thicker than the first, the third the same. Try to get it as thin as you can before you start getting uncovered spots, it'll keep you 1*C cooler (like it's a huge difference . Man...I gotta get this OC under control...

I'm not gonna open her back up anytime soon, if it ain't broke don't fix it right?

I think it's fine now, but I'm still considering backing up and starting with a clean slate again.

wow im getting idle temps of 43ish using always on. with hd temps of 31 (this is while using winamp and IExplorer). ALso my gaming temps went down about 3-6*
post #127 of 174
I got down to 36C earlier, I got chills

My cpu idling speed with the new firmware is @ 41-43 C.

The odd thing is that my harddrive 's temperature is still between 47 - 51 C normal usage , 51-56 hard usage.

Any ideas ?
Thx

is it propped up? im using the nexus cooler which seemed to help bring down the hd temps.
DarkProphet,
No it is not propped up.
Do you always use additional cooling with your laptop ( external fan, nexus )?

How are your hdd temps without the nexus ?

Thx

Ok I just dl'ed and installed the firmware that David Liu at Sager emailed me. He sent the .iso file so all I had to do was burn the image straight to a cd-r with Nero and then have the BIOS boot from CD-ROM first. It did everything automatically and now I'm getting 43C at the full 2.23GHz ... amazing! My HD is around 40C. At 800MHz I'm getting between 35C and 40C, but usually around 37C. So far no crashes but I haven't done a cold boot yet. If anyone is having trouble installing the file that Adam posted just email Sager asking for the iso.

Ogre, what's your bios version now? Did it change with the firmware update? With all these different versions floating around now, I'm starting to lose track of which one is which. According to my tally, there are 3 (possibly different) firmware updates currently circulating: the one posted by Adam on 9/10, the one he posted on 9/13, and now the one that David Liu emailed you today.
Hmm, idk what version it is. Does it show it at POST or do I have to go into BIOS to see?
ogre those are EXACTLY my temps too!!

jetnosfreak: yea you should aways keep the back propedup a little. I always use my nexus cooler, there isnt any fan or anything, but it props it up nice and allows it to cool, plus it makes it a bit easier to type on.
Man, how are all you guys getting 42*C on "Always On" when the lowest I've gotten with 4 different AS5 applications (different thicknesses) is 48*C? Guess you guys might have a more aggressive fan

Also, are you using the bios ogre got or the one Adam posted?

no matter what I do my 4750 crashes soon after or during start up. This only happens after it has been off for at least 15 minutes or so. The only way I can get it to boot usually is if I let it sit in its crashed state until the fans come on and then I force shut down and restart immediately and it usually doesn't crash afterwards. The fans come on just in the nick of time this way because the cpu is already warmed up.

Since I am now practically an expert on the heat issues of my machine I know that the problem is the fact that the fans do not come on at startup until the cpu reaches 40C. I thought that the firmware Sager has sent out changed this but apparently it has not. I'm emailing them asking for a new firmware that will keep my machine from crashing almost everytime I boot up.

Try the first release Adam put up, the fans go full blast at post and stay on...this way you'll know if it is heat or you have any damage.
air, i have the 2nd release adam posted. Were also using the nexus coolers as well. Are you propping yours up?

I don't want my fans to be on full blast all the time. I'm just gonna wait for Sager to update the firmware again, I just emailed them about it so I'll hear from them tomorrow. I hope I don't have damage, but it's starting to seem like that since I appear to be the only one having a serious problem like this. Then again, if I can survive startup everything performs great, the laptop is much cooler than it used to be. I'm just gonna put myself in Sager's hands now, there's not much else I can do.

I just had a lockup too Ogre, and my laptop had been turned on for at least 3 hours, seems that the new firmware hasn't solved the heat issue after all (even with AS5).

I plan on contacting them as well. While it's not as bad as before (several times a day) it's still too often considering that it's happened only several days into the new firmware.

I just plan on asking on how they want to resolve the issue or if I can exchange for a 3790, this is getting ridiculous.
