700m Benchmarks

My gf was sick tonight, so I got bored, and was "tinkering" around, and benchmarked my new 700m. There are two vide drivers currently available for download. The one that comes default on the 700m (also available on the Dell Website for download) is the 14.10, and the newest one that's available for download on the intel site is 14.70. I tested them both, and got similar results, with the default driver being a little tiny bit better. I used 3DMark2001, and got 2429, with the first run, before the driver update, and then 2394 with the new driver, representing about a 1% drop off in performance. The new driver adds a few tweaks, and customizable setups and such though, so I think I'll keep it. Not as good as my A64 system, with a 5950 Ultra that gets over 20,000, but not bad.

The hardware is not compatible to run all the tests, so 3 tests are left off when running the benchmark.

I also ran the PCMark04 and got some interested results. The little laptop scored surprisingly well, almost keeping up with the A64 system in some tests. It didn't spit out a full score, because you need Windows Media Player 9, and I upgraded to 10, but if it did....I think it would have been in the 3000 range, whereas my A64 3200+ system is right around 4400.

I also tried running a few games to see how they would run. I'm happy to report that CS, MOH:AA, and GTA:Vice City ran pretty well with medium settings in 800x600resolution. I know that this isn't anything to write home about, but I'm very happy that I can do some basic gaming when I get bored on the road.

I'm more and more pleased with this laptop everyday.

I had the 64mb mobility radeon9000 in my old 600m, and games ran pretty good on it. You can also overclock that card a decent amount, as Dell underclocks from manufacture default clocks.
