It is formating right now, but here is some initial impressions. When it turns on, the fans are on, but they are quite as hell. I can barely hear them. The screen is BEAUTIFUL!!!! Anyways, i have the 4x +- DVDRW, but its not the Toshiba model. Instead the model is UJ-825S. It is a slot loading dvd burner. (no tray just pop it in!) The DVD burner name on boot says...LOL...MAT****ADVD! im pretty sure that this is a hybrid panasonic drive because they use the UJ-825S also.

ok after installing i found a couple problems. the first is that the turbo wireless is not picking up anything. i guess this is the situation where i have to move the internal antenas? the other thing is that they forgot to install my bluetooth card. they will ship it out overnight to me so that wont be a prob. otherwise, it runs cool and quite. no heat issues at all!

guess what...i do have bluetooth...didnt know i had to click FN +F12! works beautiful!
yeah, you gotta remember to do the fn+f11/fn+f12 toggle for wireless/bluetooth (can'y have both at the same time I think, could be wrong tho).

good luck with it! since your fans turn on at startup, I think you have the new firmware fix.

PICS PICS PICS!!!

Really? What games have you ran, benches etc and what are your temps during this process?

im still installing apps/etc. lots of work....turns out that there was nothing wrong with the wireless either. windows and the ezlink utility were conflicting. anyways....it picked it up and i am getting gull 54mbps (my router doesnt suppor 108) and i am also using Bluetooth at the same time. even the tech guy was saying that bluetooth and wireless dont work together but it is for me.

many people have complaned about it getting hot, etc, mine isnt hot at all. the fans do seem to be on almost all the time, but they are EXTREMELY quite. the volume of the fans raises a bit about every 15-20 min. and during doom3, but not enough to take notice (it is a million times quiter than my desktop).

once i do some benches and get official temps ill let u know. as for the slot loading dvd, its awesome! every notebook needs one of these. they are extremely conveinient.

that's pretty close to what I get. Right now I've got 47 for the cpu (full 2.23Ghz , web surfin) and 39 for the HD. My dorm room stays pretty cool all the time that might have something to do with it.

glad you're happy with the AX7, I debated between the two for a while and it seems that it's just preference.

the conflict with wireless and blutooth is that they run on the same frequency and so you might get interference issue with the two. But, then, if both signals are strong, well, power to ya!

Noise

You say this machine is very quiet. Do you have something to compare it to? Have you heard it next to other laptops? I ask because people are always claiming that these Clevo machines are quiet when in fact they are simply quieter than their previously owned machine (usually a desktop wind tunnel).

Also, which cpu do you have? 3400?

i have the 7200rpm Hitachi 60gb. Anyways, If I had to compare it to another laptop, I would say it is very much like my dads Dell Inspiron 8600 as far as fan noise. Really, if you dont have this model yet, dont worry about fan noise because it isnt a big deal. the indoor temp of where i am is about 75 degrees. my dorm room has good air conditioning so i expect my temps to drop. this laptop must be insulated or something because the casing just BARELY gets warm. anyways, i snapped 2 shots of it:

and here is the slot loading dvd which i found out is the oem version of the panasonic. its specs are 4x DVD+-RW, 2.4x DVD-RAM (holds 9.4gb!!!)

yeah i posted it wrong at first.

all the problems that i thought i had are resolved. the first was the bluetooth in which case i had to turn it on by hitting fn+f12 and the second was the wireless which only need me to disable the windows wireless connection utility and just use the g ezlink. utility. the range is DAMN good for the wireless...i am upstairs in my house and my wireless router is in the opposite end of our house downstairs in the office in the corener of the room! to compare, the dell inspiron 8600 with 54g wireless drops to 27mbps while my AX7 stays at 54mbps. i wonder what 108 will be like!

also, when i was having my bluetooth/wireless problem, i dialed the tech # that came on an id card with my computer and after 2 rings a HUMAN ANSWERED THE PHONE!!! this caught me off gaurd cause i thought that i called the wrong #! just when i was about to hang up, i replayed the words that i just heard over in my head "Hypersonic tech support, what can we do for ya?", i gave the guy my tech support # and told him my prob, and within 2 minutes everything was solved. i have to give their tech support 5*infinite! every other tech support i have called either led me to an answering machiene/automated hell, india, china, etc. this was direct and fast. Hypersonic tech support owns!

could you get a sharper picture of that slot drive possibly with a cd sticking out of it? and we need some gaming temperatures.

played doom 3 last night and boy it kicks ass. i used the humus tweak and played it at 1080x768 and high settings and it was awesome. no skipping/clipping/popping/locking. the fans come on during gaming louder than any other time, but you cant here it or notice it because the sound is drones it out. the fan noise is not an issue. the temps that i get when gamin is the hdd goes up to 50 while the computer gets to 61.

small note, for a second i thought something was wrong with my computer today, when i boot up and logged in i got a blue screen and it crashed. luckily it was just a bad tweak that i made in the regestry, so i was able to fix that pronto.

as for the temps, i have never used this laptop when it is sitting just on a desktop. it is always on my tagus coolpad. i prefer the coolpad because the angle makes it easier for me to type, and the abilty to move the laptop 360 degrees helps too.

the only thing that bothers me about the laptop is the time it takes to boot up. it boots windows extremely fast, but the bios takes long. the bios shows the memory check and all that stuff, and then hangs for a bit until it loads the mouse. i think it says mouse initialized or something like that, but it takes a long time to initialize the mouse. i dont use that touchpad so i went into the bios to see if i can disable it, but it doesnt seem to have that as an option. hopefully a future bios update will fix this problem. its not even a big problem, it just takes like 15 seconds for the bios screen to pass.
