Why do people put everything they own on the desktop? Isn't that what My Documents is for?

Accessability for frequently used files or programs. I typically don't keep files on my desktop, but if I'm using one frequently, I don't have a problem keeping it there. It's like... *shock surprise!* a real desk... if I'm using something frequently, I'll leave it out rather than putting it away in a drawer or something.

after playing around with windowblinds and picking a theme, i noticed that my name on the start button has been changed back to Start and i tried to change it to Nutso, and it didnt work. Is windowblinds interferencing that? Any help is appreciated.

Only me?

I don't have a pic to put up right now cuz not on my machine, but am I the only one who doesn't have their toolbar on the bottom? I have mine on the left side...find this easier to use. Anybody else agree with me or am I just weird?

My most recent desktop. One really cool thing about this desktop photo is that the pic is not created, edited, but a photo from a space telescope that someone else in this thread pointed to. Really cool. It looks like an eye. Amazing that things this beautiful (and more so) actually exitst in nature

hehe, I dug this thread up because I still wanna see what people's desktops look like. Here's my latest one. Made it look 97% OS X Panther theme. The icons are not MAC, but I like them. That and the small things in the start bar that may point to a WinXP OS. Too lazy to change.

I updated the desktop on my desktop pc. I think it is alot cleaner and nicer

The Taskbar slides away to the bottom, and the Icons at the top work the same as the Icons on OS X. Everything shown, except for the wallpaper and the Winamp Skin I got from this very thread. The YzDock is extremely handy. Now I dont have to show the desktop to quickly get to a program, I just move my mouse to the top of the screen.

The Winamp Skin is Called Multipass 1.3
The Wallpaper is of Shakira
The XP Theme is called Opus
The Mac-like icons are possible using YzDock

New Setup!

Here's my logon screen(with my logon name edited out for privacy reason):

and here's my new desktop layout:

Yep, that analog clock works. The reason why I have that digital clock there is because when I run things, it takes up the whole screen, covering up my clock. So I made the digital clock and set it to always be on top. It sits on top of everything in the blank space in the title bar.

That dock on the bottom left is not yz dock or agua dock. It's actually my taskbar. It auto hide when i don't hover my mouse over it. All running programs are shown there. As you can see, when I have it minimized, the program will take a screenshot of the software's window and place it as an icon. ^^ I added the show desktop so I can easily minimize everything.

That tabbed dock at the bottom serves as everything the start bar serves and even more. I still got my "system tray" under the tray tab. And all other tabs contain direct shortcuts to respective softwares.

Oh yea, my right click on desktop doesn't produce the lame menu that it used to give. It gives me the tiny version of the startmenu. Complete with all programs, my documents, recent, control panel, shut down and such.

I feel SO much more productive with this new set up because everything is right at my finget tip.

Program used:
StyleXP
DesktopX Pro
ObjectDock Plus

Do I hear someone in the crowd yell out, "FREAK!" ?

Sounds sweet! I would ask if you were concerned about eating resources, but looking at your specs, it looks as if you can handle it.
